Gainesville weather blows. It’s hot and muggy year round. Like saying Baton Rouge’s weather is favorable. Unless he drives a long way to a beach, Oxford has better weather. Most non AARP people prefer 4 seasons.

You’re over an hour from the beach and it’s laughable to say 3 sides

True, but he’s recruiting pretty well.

2/3 of the biggest schools in the state are down. Being the splash hire could affect things.
And he knows they’ll be back. They aren’t as down as Florida either.
And as far as the city he actually lives in, Oxford is soooo much better than fricking Gainesville.

I don't really think there is much if any room for them to take Drink or Kiffin.
Both of those guys are at 9m already so bidding them out isn't very realistc.
They both have great relationships and have the booster systems humming at all-time levels at their respective programs. They also have a TON of clout within said systems.
If Florida wants Drink or Kiffin they will have to wrangle their boosters and get them to kowtow as well as guarantees they'll have significantly more resources to work with than at their old schools

i didn't think of the assistants. i wonder how many on kiffin's staff he would go with him elsewhere if he did decide to leave.
Goulding would be hired to replace Lane. Weiss would probably go with Lane. Defensive staff would probably stay. Offensive staff would probably look at their options.

Gene Chizik played at UF. I wouldn't be surprised to hear his name thrown around because of that.
Brian Johnson was Mullen's QB coach and OC. He bolted for the NFL, but his name may get thrown around as well. He was highly thought of during his time at UF. He seemed to keep things together as Mullen was imploding.
Napier's buyout is still really high - another boneheaded move by Stricklin.
Contract info I found for Fisch:
Fisch was due to make $3.4 million in 2024 from Arizona per FootballScoop and will now make $7.5 million in his first season with the Huskies.
The University of Alabama had to pay $12 million to acquire DeBoer's services from UW. If Fisch ends up taking a job elsewhere before Jan. 8, 2025, his new employer would have to send the same amount to UW to buy out Fisch's contract.
The buyout amount decreases as the contract ages, with it being $10 million if Fisch leaves before 2026, $6 million before 2027, $5 million before 2028, $3 million before 2029 and $1 million before 2030.
Looks like it would be $45M or so to get rid of Napier after paying his buyout and another coach's buyout. I assume some of his assistants may also have buyout numbers. To be honest, I think Stricklin is going to refuse to move on this unless the big boosters force his hand.
With more changes in CFB like expanded playoff, revenue sharing etc...it might make sense for UF to bite the bullet and let Napier ride out this contract and see how things go. Maybe we end up with a new division in CFB, sans NIL, before long.

I member when Bob Stoops was always rumored to Florida many times over the years. Might as well add him to the mix lol

Driven through MS but never to Oxford. I know nothing about it - what makes it a good place to be?

I think it would be a mistake for Lane. Admin, boosters and fanbase are all in at Ole Miss. Not so sure that's the case at UF these days.
Malzahn is just another version of Mullen.
Drink would get paid, and would probably improve the situation, but doubt he can win at the level many want down there.
That job has taken a hit. If it was what it once was they would've never had to hire Mullen or Napier.

Totally forgot about Stoops. Spurrier still has an office in the stadium. They're good friends. That would be a homerun hire for UF. Stoops has ties to UF and knows how to coach and what it takes to win in the SEC and elsewhere. He also knows how to hire competent assistants. I doubt he would have to hire 100 analysts to figure things out, so that's a bonus.

Small town feel with everything you need. Basically no crime. People leave him alone. He can walk through the grocery store and not get harassed.
That and his brother and his family moved onto his street. His daughter is in school at Ole Miss and Lane said last week in an ESPN article with Chris Low that his son was moving to Oxford next summer.

This is big. Fans would be all in with Lane. But from his perspective, I'm not sure he would see the administrative side as being the same at UF as what he has at Ole Miss. There are real administrative problems at UF in this regard.

Gus could take the bus up the road to Gainesville from Orlando without ever having to move his belongings.....sure would save UF admin a bunch of money in the process.

Thanks.
He would be a great fit at UF, but there are a lot of factors I can see that would compel him to stay at Ole Miss. The logic for a move is there, but if he's really happy at Ole Miss, and if his family is happy, he may not want to disturb that.
If UF threw enough money at him, he could make it work, I'm sure. Money can buy a lot of convenience.
But, again...it sucks to uproot your family and why spoil a great situation if you don't have to.

There’s no dog pecker gnats buzzing in your ears 24/7/365 in Oxford. Unlike in Gainesville.

Does Disney have 15 mill per year for 8 years guaranteed after firing Billy? Because he is making 9 + incentives in Oxford.

The Gus push will be big after KJ Jefferson beats them in Gainsville for the second time in the last 8-9 months.

Kiffin would be dumb as hell to leave OM. He could go 8-4 9-3 forever there and they'll build a statue for him (and before OM peeps get in their feels, we'd be the same way). The only thing I see that MIGHT sway him is the fact that this is his hot year. All the pieces are in place this year. Next year is pretty much total rebuild. I think they return something like 5 or 6 players off their 3 deep next year. He is good with the portal but that's a lot to ask, now that everyone else is catching up with portal use. I think he's a great fit at OM though.

Because Florida’s potential is far greater than Ole Miss.
I mean we have the potential to make the playoff. Only 7 other programs have been to more NY6 bowls in the playoff era than Ole Miss. We've become a portal destination (top 3 classes in the last 3 years). Our NIL is humming along fantastically and there is no rebuild job. Not to mention that but the series is tied.
Florida struggles with every one of these points.

I've lived in both. Live in Oxford now in fact.
I don't worry about my shite getting stolen in Oxford, and there is no where in town that I ever worry about crime. Gainesville has more to do, but it can take as long to get across as driving from Ole Miss to Tupelo.
Gainesville is both closer to more things I enjoy and farther away from everywhere I enjoy taking a road trip to.
Oxford, even with all the growth, still feels a lot more like a small college town than the suburban sprawl of Gainesville. Gainesville had a little more diversity in social circles if you aren't into the whole country club scene.
I think it really comes down to what you're into. I enjoy going back to Gainesville on occasion a lot, but it doesn't make me wish I still lived there.
