He was kind of a "downer" but made it clearer than anyone I've heard.

Very informative thread. Would read again.

Very precise, I finally learned the ins and outs of NIL.

Basically it's like the NFL except with no contracts. He said, imagine if all the pro players could just decide to switch teams 2 times per year. CFB needs player contracts for 3-4 years.

He said it has little to do with NIL marketing. It has become "pay for play", period.
You know, I thought maybe you wise guys might have watched him on the SEC network or on a streaming service. Sorry wise guys, look it up for yourself in the time you take to bash...

"There's just not a system in place, and I don't think there is any other sports in any level that are like this," Kiffin said. "... I was just thinking on the plane ride over here, 'What if you had that in other sports?' Tom Brady, A'ja Wilson, Lionel Messi, LeBron James -- what if every year they could opt into free agency? Twice a year, really. And they had no long-term contracts. Basically, everybody is not even on a one-month contract because you can leave in two windows."
"And I'm not complaining about it because we take advantage, obviously, of free agency. But I don't think it's good for college football."

Yawn
He said exact same thing last year.
Of course, it's free agency with no controls.
It was supposed to only be a one time transfer, now you have players coming and going multiple times.
You also have some that go into portal and their career ends.
Scholarships have always been a one year deal that have to be renewed. There was never any guarantees for players.

I've heard it explained that way before.

They tried that and then schools went to one year scholarships and then the players realized the schools were looking out for the schools so the players started looking out for themselves and here we are.

It’s probably gonna move that way.
And the players will collectively bargain and get a share of the ESPN money.

Everyone knows this already. Not really ground breaking analysis on his part

How hard is it to post a link and a quote or two from the actual person you're trying to talk about?

Lane wants to be the only one to have the ability to hold out for money at the end of every season.

Well, are you going to inform us of what he said or just give a reaction that no one asked for?

The Transfer Portal is a separate concept from NIL.
It is a concept that Lane has used a hell of a lot.

Ok, so at least he said he is not complaining about and acknowledges that they take advantage of it…
