How exactly do coaching trees work? Because Lanning coached under Saban and Norvell too. Pittman has coached under countless coaches. I’d say Beamer is more of a Spurrier/Beamer/Riley coaching tree.

Pittman and Lanning were both promoted directly from Kirby’s staff to HC, Beamer had a one year stint at OU as TE coach before making it as HC at SC. Mel Tucker is another who was promoted directly from Kirby’s staff.

Pittman has been outspoken about how he modeled his approach at Arkansas after Kirby's Georgia program, and that he learned more under Smart than any coach he ever worked for in his career.

He's worked under a ton of coaches, but he's absolutely part of the Smart tree.

LOL doesn’t Pittman also come from Butch Jones’ coaching tree?

Tucker also worked for Saban directly at MSU in the late 90s, LSU, and Bama as well. So I suppose he could come off that tree

Beamer is not from the Kirby coaching tree

He was at South Carolina before Georgia and spent more time here. He was at Miss State before that, also for a longer period than at Georgia.

Hell I’d say the best argument is that Beamer is under the Beamer coaching tree. Of the Frank variety.

Ironically, we weren't sad to see beamer go.
In a staff of stud recruiters, he was a dud.
He was an a+ special teams coach, though. But tight ends and recruiting, he was a negative.
