why didn't the Mississippi liberals keep pushing for a change after the vote failed in 2002?

16% of black Mississippi residents is seven people?

Weird how you're dismissing those people because they dont agree with you.

Is it because they're black?

Then it will eventually lead to civil war and the death of all these snowflakes. If that's the case, it's worth it.

If there are enough people, that is generally how it works in this country.

They have been. It’s not just the liberals.

Not so far.

Most of those against it such as PlateJohnsonIII just want the Legislature to change it themselves.

I don't think anything is wrong with that as long as you can get some good polling that people want it to be changed.

I get that everyone is using the slippery slope argument but that has its own issues as well.

The only thing we have to go off of is 2/3 of Mississippians voted to keep it in 2001.

Not really.

These types of things always become slippery slopes.

See Confederate statues.

Nah, something from 19 years is fairly irrelevant to what the current thought is right now. Maybe more people still do support it staying but a vote from nearly 20 years ago doesn't support that.

Yes really, you could argue against changing many things in the past that we now recognize as wrong if you tried to justify it with the slippery slope argument. There is a reason that it is recognized as a fallacy. That doesn't mean it never has merit though.

Because that’s their job. The current flag was enacted by the legislature.

We aren’t a direct democracy. We don’t solve most of our problems by putting them out to a vote by the people.

Ballot initiatives have their uses when congress fails to act. However, now is time for them to act.

Because you can't vote on every little problem.

A state flag, in my opinion, should be a representative of the people of the state and therefore is a worthy ballot initiative.

Why do you have such a problem with making it one?

Thats the problem with our society. Its not a pro slavery flag to the people who love it. That is you being closed minded. Ironic since you think they are closed minded for liking the confederate flag.

Symbols have different meanings to different people.

It's an ugly flag. It probably needs changing anyway. But don't stoop to calling people racist if you don't know their intentions or feelings about race based on something that has nothing to do with race.

And let the unwashed masses decide? After all, the elected politicians have no agenda and certainly know better than the citizens that put them in office.
