As shown by the poll placed in the thread not even all the people polled that you lumped into a single mindset isn't for it.
Are those people racist too?

People wanting that flag changed is not a sudden, current thing.
So change something just because some people want to?
Will you support changing the next thing they decide they want to do away with?

Also not sure what the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia has to with anything.
Because the battle flag of the army of Northern Virginia is in the upper left corner of the state flag.

You seem to suggest that their tenure inside the State's Borders is somehow tied to good judgement and a sense of right vs wrong
I read about similar attitudes from back in the 40s, 50s, and 60s when "folks who have been in mississippi their entire lives" made claims like, " our Blacks don't wanna vote" , or our Blacks don't care about no Civil Rights, back then they claimed "outside agitators" were stirring up trouble and putting crazy thoughts in heads of good mississippi folks
It's amazing how much Technology has evolved over the last 60 to 80 years, it's also amazing how little some Humans have evolved over the last 60 to 80 years

Getting rid of a blatantly racist symbol that has hurt this state for a long time? Hell yeah, I'm for getting rid of it.
The better question is why do you want to keep a confederate symbol, on which the state of Mississippi made it very clear in writing as to their reason for succession:
Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world.

Me too but I also know that wont be enough to appease the mob.

Why do you keep bringing up Mississippi's reason for secession when this flag had nothing to do with Mississippi until 1894?
It also seems dumb that the top candidate for replacing the current flag was actually Mississippi's state flag during the Civil War.

It’s so sad that outsiders who have basically the same flag want to chime in. Our flag is going to change, it’s been on the chopping block before the Ncaa came in.
I don’t mind a flag change, most everyone here says it’s time.
Reading through this and previous threads, and just from general conversations, this seems to be the crux of the matter.
It seems that most people agree that the flag will change, and probably was slowly in the process of doing so.
But it is sort of silly for a sports conference to feel the need to weigh in and impose a potential financial penalty on all the residents of a state, who should really be the ones to make that decision.
For example, I don't live in Mississippi, or California, or Wisconsin, and it would seem silly to me to try and impose my will on their due process, even if I disagreed with something that they were doing.
I don't think the argument is necessarily about the flag itself, it's about outside entities influencing local policy, and that probably just tends to get even reasonable people upset.

Georgia changed the state flag in 1956. Mississippi will probably change their flag in 2056.

The Stennis Flag seems to be the top choice, although lawmakers are wanting the MS state seal with the words "In God We Trust" on there.

Designed by the granddaughter of a known segregationist, is that far enough removed?

What's strange is GA adopted the CSA flag with the GA seal on it, and GA isn't catching any flak from the SEC/NCAA over their flag.

And she had addressed that as a reason she wanted to do some good, as she is completely against the views held by her grandfather.

Not sure why some like to pretend that non Southerners live on some morally higher ground than Southerners.
Most of the North's stance on slavery was only what it was because the North didn't depend on slave labor and they knew it'd drive the South into poverty, thus making the North the economic engine of America.
Their stance on anti segregation was also based on the fact that it just didnt affect them, in fact, most areas outside of the South are still somewhat unofficially segregated.

Most Southern state flags have at least a vague connection to the Confederacy.

That is the only reason they are going. If they lose one player after another then they have a Chad Morris problem. It could be bad enough that football isn't played or delayed. That is what you get when coaches no longer have a iron grip.

I think all of the current designs look like shite.
If it were up to me, I'd keep the current design and replace the battle flag with either a magnolia blossom or the outline of the state.

Oh, my goodness. Just change the freaking flag so this farcical bullshite ends. I'm tired of hearing about it. Let them have this victory so they can feel like they've accomplished something.
