That’s crazy. Hard to imagine how you can’t win most games with that.
Well, we really won't know that till next year, now will we.
But, we have also found out the last couple of years, these freshman superstars struggle in college against similar sized competition day in and day out.
But anyway, yes, this is the Anthony Davis/ MKG opportunity for Cal to redeem himself and go out on top.

Calipari should be fired if he doesn’t make the final 4
It boggles the mind why 5* are still lining up for Calipari. But then I'm still wondering why Kentucky is getting the prime games on ESPN against the likes of Georgia. A brand must be one hell of a drug.

He still puts more players in the high paying NBA than anyone else. Kentucky just happens to be the stopping point. Plus now, they will make a million for the year they are here, get all the exposure, and sign some $200M contracts in 4 years.
It's a good gig if you can get it.

The value of a brand is their base fans but an added component is rivals tuning in to see UK lose. Not just in the SEC but old rivals like IU. Duke does not have real live fans but they draw ratings from UNC, UK, and others tuning in hoping to watch a loss.
Notre Dame football is the classic example. Much of their media demand is for non Notre Dame fans.

Cal has done a pretty remarkable job underachieving but not by enough to be fired at UK ever since that last Final Four in 2015...would be nuts to see UK have this level of talent for a decade and not make a Final Four.
Even that 2015 Final Four team was a bit of a disappointment because they lost to Wisconsin of all teams and that was their first loss on the entire season IIRC.
2014-15 Kentucky had Devin Booker, KAT, Willie CS, Trey Lyles, Harrison twins, Tyler Ulis...and lost to a Wisconsin team whose only NBA players were Dekker and Kaminsky...Dekker is out of the NBA now and Kaminsky has been a career bench guy.

Cal finally got the lead with 3 minutes left, then took Ulis out and put the Harrisons back in and we lost. That's Cal's style.

Why would you go to Kentucky as a top recruit?
Seems like all going there does is lower your prospects.

Maybe to win a Natty but UK is #1 for getting kids in the NBA

Les Miles was a NC coach. Lost one OOC regular season game in 12 years.

Can you imagine Saban at the NiT or missing a tournament at all?
Saban didn’t even make the conference tournament this year.

Fair, though I'd be curious to see a similar breakdown of how they did for Alabama. The "Alabama send more to the NFL because they get more 5*" is a legit reason to look deeper. They did, and it turns out being a 5* at Alabama improved your odds of making the NFL, not lowered them.
I'd be curious if Kentucky has a similar track record, or if their "more in the NBA" is simply a result of having more 5* with no notable increase in success rate beyond recruit ranking.

Shouldn't he already be? I think they're up to like 1,420 days since their last NCAA tournament win. When was the last Final Four? 2014 maybe?

Miles is a pretty good comparison for Calipari actually, except I would argue Calipari has more a stranglehold on talent than Miles ever did compared to rest of country.
Calipari has had UGA/Bama football recent talent at UK in basketball basically. Miles was up there in talent but he never was part of an oligopoly of talent those programs now have.

NBA drafts of potential. Ready or not…they’re gone.
You are correct and all have potential. Seems they could benefit from more time playing in college - we will see. If they return they should be a fun team to watch next year.
