And just as many of us thought it was suspect.

I've never understood the need to come to an anonymous message board to metaphorically scream at the sky that your new coach is gonna whistle zippity doo dah out of his a-hole. What do you get out of it even if you’re right? E-cred? Tuscaloosa gonna put your name in a thread title? SoG gonna put you in one of his simulations? HRV gonna name you poster of the year 167 times?

That was good.

Putting everyone's bias aside, the hire was a big deal. On paper, LSU had just hired its most qualified coach in the school's history. The all-time winningest coach in Notre Dame history was on board. Of course, nobody here knew that he was coming to collect a check and not put in the hard work. So with that knowledge, it's not surprising it didn't work out.

Beware Bama friend, this is a new era of college football. The volatility of this sport is at a height never before seen. If you expect your coach to be there in five years, prepare to be disappointed. Y'all may be finding yourselves in the shoes of Florida, LSU, and Auburn sooner than you think.

We have him for 10 yrs. Good things are about to happen.

Seems like Kelly was perfectly fine to abide by the terms of that contract. LSU, not so much.

Almost wish he wasn’t 60 years old. It would be really nice to have a coach of his caliber for a good 15 plus years. Like Saban has done in Alabama. But, we are also now getting him at his best due to all his previous experience. So that is a plus.

From what we have seen in very short time, he looks like an absolute homerun hire.

That is tough to read. It is like a True Crimes drama with kids involved.

Can't believe they were celebrating Kelly not leaving back then...

Irony really isn't just a river in Egypt.

They were enamored with him…..even when it became apparent that he sucked they kept saying he just needed more time. It was really fun to watch them slowly realize how bad he is, and not only a bad coach but a total prick.

Ngl I thought Kelly was a solid hire too and the best "get" by an SEC school since Saban. Boy was I wrong...

It became a new era of football in Baton Rouge when Saban left. That was in 2004.

Don’t forget defending the grinding on players, paraphrasing of course, but “he’s a players coach, the kids love this stuff, ”

This serves as a lesson. A portion of the LSU fans will hype whoever they hire whether it's a Sunbelt coach or a Big 12 coordinator.

Alabama hired a coach 4 days after his appearance in the national championship game.
The days of those types of hires is over. Alabama had perhaps the last of those types of big hires.
The way CFB has changed even since DeBoer's hire has changed forever.
It's not about coaching salaries and "good jobs" and more about NIL guarantees.

Oh boy. There's trying to psyche yourself up for a new coach...then there's going full looney....they went full looney.

I thought it was a good hire at the time. I knew he was a total prick but I thought he was arrogant enough to want to win a natty. Hell he donated a million of his own money for NIL.

I had no clue he was a lazy pos that just wanted to play golf
