9-3 would be a reasonable record in the first year with a totally new staff and Jalen Milroe at qb.

"made it to the national championship game last year..."

Hey Rainman...I think the poster was trying to say that when he wins in the SEC like Saban did, then you can make comparisons. Its one thing to excel when you play Our Lady of Grace all-girls school for the blind every year, and its another when you win against an SEC schedule, like Saban did.

you mean there are actually people that expect this coach, any coach, to win as much as the greatest coach ever in college football won ?

not likely

By all means look at DeBoer’s track record at Washington against more talented teams

Texas: 2-0
Oregon: 3-0
USC: 1-0
Michigan: 0-1

“DeBoer isn’t a good gameday coach” is a very weird hill to die on. But I guess when the recruiting jabs go up in smoke it’s all y’all got

Deboer will be a better X&Os coach than Saban. He'll take lesser talent and do more with them.

This is true.

It is also hilarious coming from an Aggie.

All the three and four stars he’s signing? Bama will recruit itself till he goes 8-4

Prediction: you’re going to be big mad when those 3-4 stars are suddenly 4-5 stars

Players are coming to Bama based on legacy right now. It is easy for him.

Review him in 2029 after five years and then evaluate how good his recruiting and his coaching is.

According to Alabama 24/7

16 recruits, with 7 being 3 stars wow I think in his time Saban maybe signed 3 in a class. How times are changing

This.

To me, the biggest question DeBoer will answer this year is how he performs without Inge, Morrell, and Grubb.

He's had those three with him for awhile now, and now they're all gone.

Saban went after stars. Saban wanted that recruiting ranking more than anything else. Saban also got several duds doing this. Deboer goes after talent he thinks can contribute, 3 to 5 stars. We'll see which way works best.

According to 247 team rankings, Alabama at #3, with three 3 stars, so apparently 247 isn't sure themselves....

it isn't reasonable to expect Milroe to produce as effective an offense as Penix did last yr. Kelly lost 4 games his first yr at LSU.

Milroe isn't a great QB and likely never will be. He was a band-aid at best last year till Bama can replace him with a better one. Simpson should be the starter this fall. If Milroe wants to play in the NFL, he should have took Bill O'Brien advice instead of coming up with a weak acronym of LANK.
