Blame Bama Fans. The thought of hiring an assistant coach was beneath them.

Probably accurate.

Depends on how this season unfolds and if he can keep it from completely falling apart.

His buyout will be last of its breed.

The question is not "what does it cost to dump him?"

The real question is "what does it cost to keep him ?"

Imagine you have have spent most of your career working in non-profits out west. All of a sudden your father dies and at 50 years old you inherit a very successful high profile company that is the major employer in a mid sized city. You move your wife and kids to a new environment where you are expected to be a community leader but you hate the job and responsibilities. You realize quickly things are falling apart and you are not ready for this. Layoffs begin and the city and local media blames you for everything. Your kids hate their school. Your wife is miserable. You are miserable and depressed every day at the thought of having to work another day at this place. On paper the company is worth 68 million but to actually sell it for that kind of money it would take several more years of hard work, sleepless nights, lengthy negotiations and court battles, a miserable home life, and having to run a company where no one respects you. A private equity firm offers 45 mil to walk away no questions asked and you and your family can be back on the West Coast tomorrow.

Tempting isn't it?

Yep. Leave now and he is a good coach who was a poor culture fit and a victim of the insane expectations at Alabama post Saban.

We're always calling for him to be removed. We're just too poor to do it.

This is why the buyout will be negotiated down to 45 mil and a lengthy payment plan.

No one is going to willing reduce their contracted pay from 70 to 45 million.

Take a 25 million dollar loss willingly?

If he is that dumb - you should have discovered that in the first interview.

Oh don't get me wrong, he has a ton of leverage too. A contract, plus our desire to stop the bleeding. But the leverage we have is if he won't take a 30-35% reduction in buyout, we can force him to keep working in a miserable environment while his reputation continues to shatter. By the time negotiations ever hit this point, the coach and their family want out of the contract too.

I am astonished that college football fans think that a new coach can come into a new football program and instantly win national championships in his 2nd season

I choose to believe that he needs to prove it first.

My MAGA friend. I don’t think that’s what the majority of us Bama fans think. This fan wants to see improvement from the last game we played. I didn’t see it at all.

So sweet to see the Gumps flopping around like a fish on a hot sidewalk.

If it worked you are talking about a pyrrhic victory that would make him a sympathetic figure everywhere else and future coaches less interested in that kind of shitshow. And if someone does something criminal to harass him or his family opens up the university to additional financial liability

Let's be honest here. No one was going to come in and sustain what Saban built. Even Sabans formula was ruined due to the portal.

Who ever came after Saban was always going to be a sacrifice. Top tier coaches knew it was a death sentence job. The only person willing to take it would be an up and coming coach willing to take the heat for a big payday

The fact they're 5-5 the last 10 games is wild.
