Leach’s Offense won’t work in a conference that plays defense. And he’s smart enough to realize that.

He's dug in and doesn't care about the fact that the same guys who kept Fulmer out are the same ones who've been in charge all this time.

The ranking the opponent had during the game doesn't matter. In 2010, Florida finished 8-5, Georgia had a losing record at 6-7, and North Carolina was also 8-5.
In 2011, Florida was 7-6 and Kentucky was 5-7. Losing to that 5-7 Kentucky team snapped a 26 year win streak.
In 2012, he lost to 8-5 MSU and 5-7 Missouri.
Dooley got one bowl game in three years, and got progressively worse each season.
Tennessee deserved way better than Dooley. Although Butch definitely underachieved, you could make the argument that he wasn't really all that bad, but not Dooley. Pruitt is looking like he might be even worse than Dooley.

Stat is wrong. He lost to at least five unranked teams that I can think of off the dome (Georgia/UNC 10, Kentucky 11, Miz/Vandy 12) And he was winless, something like 0-17 against ranked opponents in his time at UT. His best wins were against Ole Miss, NC State and Cincinnati (guess who their coach was? ) A total fricking disaster. Trust me, no Tennessee fan looks back with any degree of fondness on the years of looking for Rommel, shower hygiene, and “opportunity is nowhere”.

No doubt.
UT has a booster problem. This last round got so ugly, and was such a circus, and was so public, that no one they'd want would touch them with a 10 foot pole. They are in a bad, bad spot.
Auburn had similar problems a few years ago. They somehow fixed their booster problem and the program is better for it. The days of car dealers picking coaches over a cigar and a few bourbons are over....at least everywhere else.
We have the Haslams, their guys, and everyone else. Until, last hiring cycle when the revolt over Schiano enabled a small but important revolution the Haslams controlled everything and were responsible for every shite hire we've had. Putting Fulmer in as AD was a small win for the anti-Haslam faction but even with Phil at AD the Haslams still control far too much and can veto hires.
Personally, I'm hoping that when Big Jim kicks it they lose far more power. Big Jim is a fairly decent guy but his son Jimmy has used the credit Big Jim earned as a former player who played for Neyland along with the family fortune to have his way -- Jimmy is also the one who owns the Browns so that should tell you how much he knows about football.
Despite what outsiders think, Fulmer is the spark of hope everyone outside the Haslams/powers that be hoped for. It's bigger that Phil.

UT ceases to exist without the Haslam’s money. It makes me sick to see what so many of you misinformed Vols people think about such a great family.

I don't know enough to form an opinion on Fulmer, but generally think he was the calming force in a massive shitestorm. I know we poke fun at each other- all in good fun- but you guys deserve better than that mess the "leaders" at UT served up. UT really, really needs Pruitt to pan out, and early results are not promising.

Butch was the only semi respectable coaching hire they have made out of the last four. That is the problem.

I think so too. I never wanted leach because I think he has a ceiling in the sec. I was happier with Pruitt...until Saturday

He was also 1-0 vs. the coach that replaced him. Lmao.

I remember reading the same thing about CUM's O in the SEC.

Leach just ain't an SEC guy. He'd probably work out the same as McElwain unless he's at a smaller program.

Thats an understatement. But he is entertaining.
I think he would be much better than McElwain, but not elite. Hell, even Hal Mumme had some success with that crap at UK.

There’s no evidence at all to support this. There’s some to support he would have success in the SEC. People forget that the Big12 wasn’t always notoriously bad defensively. His teams at TTU faces some good defenses then.

Dooley's problem was that he looks like Michael Scott and says stupid shite.
Pruitt's problem is that he lost to MFing Georgia State and he looks like a penis.

Have no idea what this is referring to, but this may be the most perfect post I've ever read.

Referencing OP in that Dooley didn't actually do all that badly. But he was such a goober that it accentuated what failures he did have.
Houston Nutt was the same way. If he wasn't such an unmitigated dork, he might actually still be here.

He won 4 conference games in 3 years and lost to Kentucky for the first time in 3 decades

I'm not saying he's a good coach. I'm just saying they'd likely have been better off with him than they were with captain off season and their current "Head" coach.
The problem with Tennessee is that they leap before they look even moreso than most programs. Better to roll with Dooley and hold out for someone who has proven able to guide a big-boy program, rather than shooting your wad on a dude whose only qualification is one magic season at Cincinnati.
