Was that the game that caused the National Champs being named after the bowl game?

After that game the AP changed for the next year then went back to before the bowls for 1966. After the mess with ND in 1966 they returned to after the bowls in 1967 or 68 and stayed there ever since. We got one Arkansas should have had and lost one to ND that we should have had so either way you want to look at it, the number is still 7.

both of the major polls released their rankings after the end of the regular season until the AP polled writers after the bowls in 1965, resulting in what was perceived at the time as a better championship selection (Alabama) than UPI's (Michigan State). After 1965, the AP voted before the bowls for two years, permanently returning to a post-bowl vote in 1968.

You have to remember Alabama was the focus of racial animus during that time. Some think the AP was just doing this to prevent Bama from being #1, and it backfired on them.

No disagreement from me.

Just some of the others ones being counted are complete BS. Just like I discount 2 or UT's 6 claimed national championships.

Alabama was better than the rest of the SEC for the 24 years that the Bear kicked our collective arse's!

Now you must feel better.

The only ones I know anything about started with Coach Bryant's 6. Prior to that there are a few that claiming would be even more sketchy than claiming 1966.

Yep. I think everyone kinda agrees 1941 was a little bogus. Add in the fact many young Americans were at war. Also Bama had two losses that year. It's always kinda bullshite when a 2 loss team claims a MNC.

I would gladdly trade 1941 for 1966. then we could claim 3 in a row and take one away from ND while we were at it.

in before "There goes that stoopid 30 year mark again...but whatever makes you feel better..." or some such

the 30 yr mark is VERY indicitive because of a number of reasons. it represents the period after the bear retired, it is long term, most fans were alive when most of it occurred, etc. i have also seen 25 years used and occasionally 40 to 50. to me anything over 50 years is meaningless and i could made the case for anything over 30.

such a stupid comment. LSU baseball is no different if not worse than any other SEC baseball program without Skip...

the reason why it isn't a stupid comment is that bama fans often point out how great their program has ALWAYS BEEN. they had one coach that was so great is record statisticaly skewed their numbers. fact.

Bryant winning percentage - %80
Stallings winning percentage - %80
Wallace Wade winning percentage - %79

Yes, Bryant was there for every so his number of wins greatly dwarf both Wade's and Stallings. But roughly the same winning percentage.

I do for the following reasons.

830 wins
4 Southern Conference Championships (all outside of Bears tenure)
22 SEC Championships (9 of which outside of Bear's tenure)
7 SEC West titles outside of Bear's tenure)
9 Ten win or more undefeated, untied seasons (5 of which outside Bear's tenure)
67% winning percentage against the SEC as a whole, winning record against every single school
Most Bowl appearances and most Bowl wins of any school in FBS (119 yrs encompasses more than Bear's tenure)

What you are trying to say that Alabama's been kicking butt most of the time. The only time that has not happened is from the end of Stallings to the hiring of Saban. The time between those will be the frame that fans of other teams try to isolate so they can compare themselves to the Tide.
