Why does anything need to get “fixed”?
There will always be a team on the bubble no matter how large.
With this playoff (the best one created so far in football history) - we have mediocre 3 loss football teams complaining about not getting their shot at a title. (Looking at you 3 sec teams)
None of them are worthy.
The current system is great (one year sample size).
Play in your conference championship game and you are most likely in.
Don’t lose multiple games to crappy teams and you are in.

Make it 16 teams, get rid of the conference championship games, and play all playoff games on campuses except the championship.
Let the non qualifiers go to bowls.
It’s nonsensical that AZ state and potentially Texas have to go to Atlanta so the semifinals can be called the peach bowl.

The top two are guaranteed spots if they make the conference title game.
Then 3 plays 4 and 5 plays 6 for the other two spots. How is that a bad idea?
This is very similar to how European soccer does promotion and relegation.
The top two teams in a league win automatic promotion. 3v6 and 4v5 enter a playoff to determine who gets the third and final spot.
I haven't watched the video yet- but whatever the new format is does not need to treat all leagues as equal. There has GOT to be some sort of mathematical rating system involved like NET in basketball.
If we're going to have automatic bids, in reality they should cascade down starting with the SEC. Say we had 4 auto bids, the Big 10 should have 3, the big 12 should have two, ACC 1, and on down the line with any other league deemed worthy.
This should be a flexible scale, not just SEC gets most in perpetuity. Again, very similar to how European soccer determined Champions league qualifiers for years. The leagues were rated based on how they actually performed. England and Spain would have 4 auto qualifiers, 3 for Germany and Italy, 2 for France, and on down the line. Those auto qualifiers could change in a given time period based on the results of the competition

12 is fine if they get rid of the auto bids and just go with the top 12 ranked teams.
16 is too many
Why is 12 ok but 16 not? All it does is take out the byes and give home games to the best teams?

Moronic idea only B1G would love because it would guarantee OSU, PSU, Michigan and Oregon in damn near every playoff at the start of each season.
The elephant in the room no one wants to talk about is a B1G led committee choosing to prop up ND, Indiana and PSU by ignoring SOS to ensure Midwestern communities take in the economic benefit from the playoff home games and to ensure B1G maximizes the money it makes by having 4 participants

More of something does not always mean better.

I’ve liked the DII model since they changed to the current format back in 2019.
