Actually, they leave coaching to go to the booth all the time. I'm trying to think of a coach that left the booth to coach. Vermeil, maybe? How did that go?
I can't think of any other coaches that left the booth to coach.

Urban wasn’t technically in the booth, but it’s similar.

You mean when he was out of coaching for a year? No. That is not similar. Urban was gone for 1 year. Gruden hasn't coached in 8 years!

He also hasn't had a "heart attack"

Gruden has frequently discussed getting back into coaching. The NFL, sure, but it’s clear he doesn’t intent to remain in the booth forever.

Why didn't y'all hire him instead of Butch?

Hart couldn't close. Wanted a 6 year deal @ $5Mill per, and autonomy when it came to hiring staff. Hart (actually the board) agreed to the money, but not the power.

Now, this might have been negotiable, but Hart went against the Board and went to Jon with his offer and said take it or leave it. Obviously Jon didn't want to work for Hart.

At the time, the other hot name was Charlie Strong. We actually had Strong ready to go, but Hart insisted that he fly to Knoxville for a final interview, Charlie shut it down when Hart didn't send the plane.

Butch was actually our 4th choice. Hart was a terrible closer, the only thing he was good at was getting us out of the red.

Why do y'all do this to yourselves?

BTW enjoy Matt Campbell as your new head coach

Ah! I didn't know this. Do you think they would give it to him now?

After everything you have said, I assume Hart is gone, now?

Went to a better bowl game than you last season. We'll go to a better bowl game than you this season. Every game left on our schedule is winnable with the exception of UGA. You definitely can't say the same. Hell, you'll probably lose this weekend.

I will say this and you can take it for what it is worth. The game changes drastically very quickly. Brian Van Gorder was a great DC for Georgia years ago, and left. He coached defense for the Falcons for awhile. Then when he got fired he went to Notre Dame.....he's just not the same. My guess? The game changed and he couldn't.

Being out of coaching for 8 years is two lifetimes. And, success does not necessarily translate from college to pro or from pro to college.

I think Tennessee will get a good coach, so don't get me wrong. I'm just not sure he would be a great fit. Maybe I am wrong.

He would want more than $5 million now. He makes $6.5 with his current cushy job.

VOLS and UK hired a coach at the same time.

Botch has won 34 games and will be fired within the next 10 days.

Mark has won 24 and you are excited about the future.

Sad!

From those in the know, the money is not gonna be an issue. Autonomy may still be an issue, but if we get that close again, it will at least be negotiable. Hart flat out said NO frickING WAY. Currie seems different, in that he loves this program and wants to see us win. Hart was a Bama guy, and not to be trusted.

Yes, Hart served his purpose, got us out of a deep financial hole and made us one of the most profitable programs in the country. Now it's time to turn those profits into W's

Not really. Kentucky was pretty bad and would have a hard time attracting recruits. Tennessee should be able to attract a ton of recruits with their history.

Well, good luck with the coaching search. I'm sure you'll get a good one.

I was getting nervous there that you might throw a brick at me!

Gruden can hire great coordinators. Great head coaches are great managers, facilitators, evaluators, and leaders. Gruden can do those things.

Sure he can. I doubt he would keep his hands off the day to day, though.
