The dude literally signed with UT for one reason - money.

Wasn't it widely reported that it was a contract dispute? He wanted more money and UT said, "No."
Klatt's full of it in most situations, so that probably explains this.

How did it backfire? His manager didn't ask anybody else what they'd pay? Every single one of them does that. Why would he quit his job for more money, without knowing if there was an offer for more money?
He entered the portal with a "do not contact" message. Usually that means the player already knows his destination. A week later committed to UCLA for a reported million bucks less than he was getting paid at Tennessee. Doesn't even seem like he looked around. That doesn't sound like he left for more money, sounds like he wanted to try somewhere else for football reasons or family reasons, not money reasons.

Given the fact that he is now at a dogshit UCLA program after desperately shopping themselves around, I think the Nico clan overplayed their hand in NIL negotiations (after reupping in December after threatening to transfer) and were told to git. Their dad is a complete redneck and was quite active on Twitter, and probably didn’t appreciate all the flak that Nico got for his play last year.
If he were worth it, there are enough desperate schools out there that would’ve paid for his services instead of him making well under $1m now.
That being said, VOLS definitely aren’t any better off without him as we are now stuck with a turnover prone AAC QB who showed up in the summer.

There was a gap between Nico being released from VOLS and him entering the portal, during that time Big Nic was shopping him around desperately trying to find a landing spot.
USC and Oregon said no thanks

We upgraded so who cares. Got the NCAA 's leading passer these past two years and he's a real bluecollar kind of guy. Little princess Nico was a huge liability.

There were rumors that Nico's team had been looking around since the end of the '24 season. He wasn't happy and in order to stay, they wanted a lot more money. Tennessee said no (which was smart because he was never as good as you thought) and Nico quit coming to practice. That was a clear sign that he was gonna leave.
So why would his managers tell him to quit without a firm offer of more pay? No starting qb who is being well paid quits with no information. They talk to teams and see what their options are and undoubtedly Nico's managers did that too. Most likely, without the enticement of more money from UT he decided to go somewhere else and take a pay cut. He's two years in and hoped he could find a situation that improved his draft position. It happens, nobody's fault.
It seems like Tennessee fans want everyone to think that no qb would ever leave Josh Heupel's tutelage voluntarily, so you're inventing this narrative that Nico's managers were too stupid to check the market in the months after the season, before they demanded a raise. It's not logical. I tell you what would've been dumb; them believing that Tennessee was Nico's best shot at a first round pick next spring, and then demanding a huge raise and dropping out. So, right or wrong, they didn't believe that.

Nico was our worst performing QB in conference play since Justin Worely. He was really really bad actually. Only threw for 200 yards + twice against SEC opponents. I would bet my house Joey is better. Eye test doesn't lie. He makes much quicker decisions than both Nico and Milton did

Dude, quit talking out of your arse. You don't have a damn clue what happened. You don't have a clue what is going on at UGA, much less Tennessee.
That fat-headed, low IQ Samoan and his advisor, Cordell Landers, were shopping his kid behind our back.
Cue Oregon coach, Dan Lanning. He is straight up guy who does not play those games. He told Daddy he was not interested. He then informed Tennessee what was happening.
Josh and Danny were fully prepared when Nico started his "more money" crap. They played the give him enough rope, and his Daddy will hang him.
We got rid of the problem, and it played out publicly. Other teams saw the drama, and the betrayal and turned away from Nico. UCLA was the only one that bit, and for less money.
Nico's camp overplayed their hand. He didn't have the stats for the money he was making, much less more. Nico isn't near as valuable as his camp thought.

Yes he and a few others were threatening to transfer prior to our game in Columbus.

They didn’t, Heupel (or someone higher at UT) took it upon themselves to rip the bandaid off when he skipped the spring game (which is when they frantically started offering him to any program that would listen). Nico’s camp is run by complete retards.

I’m not inventing anything, his crew of rednecks regularly post on their public Twitter profiles
Idk about the whole nobody would ever leave Heupel schtick you’re trying to press here (or what our fans might say on Twitter). But if they were dumb enough to try and hold the program hostage prior to our first ever playoff game, I’d say they were definitely dumb enough to overplay their hand in asking for nearly $4m to play ram style football for VOLS in 2025.
Not to say Tennessee and Heupel are without blame as our offense has been rancid shite since Golesh went to USF but that’s beside the point

What’s the internal perception of the OL and WR unit this year?
I noticed Squirrel White is starting for FSU against Bama this weekend and was surprised as he seemed like a threat when he was healthy.

Freshmen Travis Smith Jr. and Radarious Jackson are a wait and see what we have deal.
What the word on Jefferson? Can he play?
OL our only returning starter is Lance Heard.
Transfer Sam Pendleton at left guard and true freshman five-star tackle David Sanders Jr., who is expected to start immediately. The rest is a young and rebuilt line.

Don’t think you’re the guy that should be responding..
Pendleton is our transfer playing center with starting experience at ND, Moe is the transfer LG that started for a playoff team last season (ASU). The staff loves our rs fr RG Perry and want him on the field. That’s why our heir-apparent Center Satterwhite lost his job, so Pendleton could move from RG to Center to get Perry on the field
Potential to be the best OL we have had in years and finally have some depth

Oh great, we have a fricking expert. I am posting reality. Not what the podcasters are feeding you.
It's a young and rebuilt line for the most part. Talented? Yes. Proven? No.

I tried to tell them.
" He wanted the offense to grow with him. And let me tell you why. That offense that Josh Heupel runs is almost like a glorified high school offense. It's the old Art Briles offense that they ran at Baylor, and the reason that it doesn't develop a quarterback is because everything is a half field read. So it's wide receiver choice routes on one side of the field, which is why none of those Baylor quarterbacks made it in the NFL."
