And if you won't listen to him, perhaps Mr. Heisman Trophy?

Also, if you're one of the ones who can, donate and assist.

Hey, it's just the flu. At least that is what many on here have said. No worries!

Still has a long ways to go before it's as deadly as the flu.

It's a lot deadlier than the flu.

"Deadliness" isn't total body count. Sheesh.

Or because more people drown than die of cobra venom, are you going to say that water is deadlier than poison?

If you want to talk about mortality rates, the real mortality rate of the coronavirus is around 0.25%.

That is higher than the flu, but not by a ton.

The flu on the other hand comes every year, kills way more people than any "global pandemic" in the past 50+ years, and that is while only counting them by the season instead of the total. And that's true if you just count the US totals, worldwide the flu kills way more. It kills people, mutates and then comes back and kills more people.

The difference is, we all grew up with the flu as part of our lives.

Why are you quoting the literal bottom of the potential range as the given mortality rate? That feels dishonest.

Business Insider - Death Rates

quote:

In Italy, it was about 9.5% as of Monday evening, while in the US it was 1.2%.
The global death rate is about 4.4%.

If 9.5% of people in Italy who got the flu in 2018 died, there would have been over 360,000 dead. That'd be approximately half the number of deaths from the flu.

Worldwide.

I'm not quoting anything, I did the math myself because links like the one you posted are generally bullshite.

The mortality rates that get quoted all the time are only done on "confirmed cases". The problem with that is only a small % of those who even contract the virus are even tested to start with. There are tons of people who are denied tests, even more people who only show mild symptoms and don't even go to the doctor to begin with.

So you look at a place like Germany that only has a 0.5% mortality rate on confirmed cases. Why is it so low? Is it because they have great medical care? No. It's because they test a way higher % of the population. Which is also why despite a low number of deaths, they are in the top5 for confirmed cases.

You don't have deaths on unconfirmed cases. Because even if they find them dead, they'll test and find the reason for death. But all the people who recover from the virus and aren't tested are NOT included in the stats.

Those numbers you quote are 100% bullshite and people with an agenda do not give a crap for some reason.

Some people do speak up, but for some reason the media overall ignores it.

Why are so few Germans dying from the coronavirus? Experts wonder

I've been saying this for weeks here and been getting called a dumbass over it, but whatever.

That's not how it works. Again, Italy doesn't have a 9.5% mortality rate, that's once again only counting confirmed cases. You have different age groups that get affected and so on. That's why these estimates are likely to end up way higher than any reality.

The higher the death rate in places like that usually means the higher amount of infections that weren't tested. Although in the case of Italy I think they have a slightly older population in general which would skew that a bit. But not 9.5%.

Epidemiologist Behind Highly-Cited Coronavirus Model Admits He Was Wrong, Drastically Revises Model

quote:

Ferguson’s model projected 2.2 million dead people in the United States and 500,000 in the U.K. from COVID-19 if no action were taken to slow the virus and blunt its curve.

Ferguson thus dropped his prediction from 500,000 dead to 20,000.

shite I've been saying since day 1 and been getting called a dumbass over.

Why did it change?

quote:

Berenson continued: “Essentially, what has happened is that estimates of the viruses transmissibility have increased — which implies that many more people have already gotten it than we realize — which in turn implies it is less dangerous.”

Remember when certainly people were like "You think you know better than the experts" because I dared to say the same things?

Panic has been used to justify further panic.

Look at the completed cases on this thing. Those are either recovered or died. There is a 16% death rate as of today, worldwide. The flu is about 0.5%.

I have disagreed with you, I have not called you a "dumbass".

I read the article you linked. I also read the article they linked. The article they link only supports the total deaths; the article at New Science specifically states that the measures taken by the UK are the reason the death rate is so drastically low.

Instead the article you link attributes things said by a different committee to Ferguson.

quote:

New data from the rest of Europe suggests that the outbreak is running faster than expected, said Ferguson. As a result, epidemiologists have revised their estimate of the reproduction number (R0) of the virus. This measure of how many other people a carrier usually infects is now believed to be just over three, he said, up from 2.5. “That adds more evidence to support the more intensive social distancing measures,” he said.

His comments come as a team at the University of Oxford released provisional findings of a different model that they say shows that up to half the UK population could already have been infected. The model is based on different assumptions to those of Ferguson and others involved in advising the UK government.

Most importantly, it assumes that most people who contract the virus don’t show symptoms and that very few need to go to hospital. “I don’t think that’s consistent with the observed data,” Ferguson told the committee.

I'm really not interested in debating with you on this. I simply posted a link about a young man using a bit of his fame to ask people to:
1. BE SAFE
2. CONTRIBUTE TO THOSE THAT ARE IN NEED

If you want to politicize it, the Poliboard is three doors down marked "All ye who enter here, beware."

If you just want to shitpost about it, the OT board is two more doors down, labeled, "Dude, you SURE you want to go in there? We're out of hand sanitizer."
