He made that comment, yes. But he also said the shoving incident--which included no punch--is a non-story.
No, I believe he indicated it was a punch not a shove and said he didn't think it was a big story though very uncommon (maybe his time spent in professional wrestling this off-season makes him think a player punching a coach (i.e., being a "heal") is not a big story.

I watched the entire press conference, and you are wrong. He never indicated it was a punch. He said he didn't witness the incident personally, but that it was being overblown and heat of the moment reactions happen all the time in football. The quote referring to "players punching coaches and coaches punching players" was said in jest after the reporter continued pressing the question. The short of it is that Sumlin said multiple times that the incident is a non-story.

No, dude. I am quoting a pro-A&M writer. The writer says what happened with JFF probably happens all the time in football. The coach says no, players don't usually throw punches at coaches.
It makes more sense now that it was a punch not a shove because the original story said JFF's teammates swarmed around him and separated him from the coach (they wouldn't do that for just a shove). I bet his teammates are getting pretty tired of his antics.

Believe what you want, but if you actually listen to what Sumlin said, he didn't insinuate that it was a punch. He was being sarcastic in response to the reporter "trying to set the story straight." All accounts are that Johnny shoved the GA, and the original question stated as much. The follow-up was the reporter specifying that a story came out stating Johnny hit a coach when he didn't, and that the reporter wanted put out a story to clarify that it was a shove, and not a big deal. But feel free to continue to twist quotes to read into it what you want to.

No.
Go watch the interview if you must. Sumlin said specifically that this incident is about as big as "Kliff Kingsbury wearing black all the time." Initial reports said a punch, but it was a shove--which was clarified in the interview by the story's author who witnessed the altercation. Sumlin stated he didn't see the event. He made the "punch" comment when asked if player scuffles with GAs are part of the game, and he said it with a smile.
Go tard somewhere else.

It's fun watching A&M fans get their panties in a wad over this stupid shite. Just enjoy your boy for one more year and hope he can play defense too.

Yeah, it's like LSU fans circa summer 2011 when Jefferson was punting dudes' faces at bars.

It's NOTHING like that at all. 99% of the fan base was happy to see him go and threw a fit when he was let back on the team.
And fwiw, Jefferson kicked a guys arse that was harassing girls and an all around douch bag. Not throw a hissy fit and take it out on a GA.

When he admitted that his star player punched a coach and he should not have done that he was being sarcastic? (after it has been reported by pro-A&M media that his star player attacked a coach and had to be separated by several players). That's pretty funny.
Admit it dude - we are watching a VH1 "Behind the Music" episode live with this kid.
The coach is trying to warn people (so he doesn't go down with the ship) but no one is listening.

Are you retarded or just trolling? Sumlin NEVER admitted that JFF punched a coach, nor said that Johnny shouldn't have done it, because he DIDN'T punch a coach. He shoved a GM that was celebrating his INT inches from his face. The quote from Sumlin about "coaches punching players and players punching coaches" was a JOKE. People laughed afterwards. You can't seriously be this fricking stupid. Either go listen to the entire press conference and educate yourself, or STFU because you don't know what you are talking about.

I can't wait for the stories next fall when JFF shoves LSU and Alabama into the loss column, which he will.

No, you should hope for this but prepare for less.
Just try to win the games you have a chance. Otherwise you'll be angry at JFF and Sumlin for a failure that's not really their fault.

After it was reported by pro-A&M media that JFF attacked a coach and it took several teammates to pull JFF off the coach he was joking that a player punching a coach is not normal at A&M practices?
I think any laughter in the room was nervous laughter.
Once again, we are watching a VH1 "Behind the Music" episode live with this kid.
Also, the way the A&M fans and now this A&M writer have changed their story and absolutely killed this Coach who was attacked is CRAZY. The Coach did nothing wrong but somehow the party line now is that he's not really a coach and he deserved to be attacked by JFF. A coach was celebrating a good play by the position he was coaching and he was attacked. No excuses, only enablers.
