Snead hit
This was an awful hit. Reminds me of the Burrow hit against in the 2019 Fiesta Bowl.
Burrow hit
Both players should have been ejected.

I remember him getting killed after throwing an interception in the cotton bowl against Oklahoma State. He came back in later in the game but no way in hell would he be allowed to enter a game after taking a hit like that in today’s game
I miss beautiful crack-back, de-cleating Blocks like that from years past
It was great to see FB played the way it is supposed to be played like back in the days of Butkus or guys like Jack Tatum
You enter the Arena you keep your head on a swivel and you protect yourself, you don't rely on the Refs and the Suits massaging the Rule Book to keep you safe
I looked at the Jevan Snead hit maybe 20 times
I really miss that kind of FB
I wish it would come back
RIP Mr Snead, may the FB Gods be with you

I get it - he took the Risks
No one talks about all the Rewards he got for being QB1 at a place like Ole Miss
He's probably gotten 3 lifetimes worth of premium arse being the BMOC in a place like Oxford
He knew the Risks, don't you dare dishonor his memory now that he's gone, I'm sure he loved every minute that he was an Ole Miss Rebel, don't dishonor him now
In fact, even former players that had their career shortened due to injury don't like the newer safety rules, they'll tell you to a man, cut out spearing and high-low combo blocks and leave everything thing else alone
Only NON-PLAYERS like these new safety rules, a crack-back block where the crown of the shoulder pads leads the contact is clean hard nosed FB
When issues like these arise we can always tell who was on the Debate Team, Chess Team, Tennis Team, etc and who has actually played competitive FB to at least the Varsity level in HS
I have yet to meet ONE former player that played the game at the HS Level or higher that likes all these new safety rules

This story is brought to you by the next thread bitching about targeting rules and how soft the kids are.
Whoops. Looks like it already started.
Unbelievable.

Terribly sad. It's one reason why people should stop getting their panties in a wad over targeting penalties. It's not trying to take away from football. It's trying to protect players by being a deterrent to those type of hits. The same is true for blind side hits.
Technology can only do so much to protect players. It's a risky business.
You have to feel for the young man and his family. It's just one of many such stories of CTE from football.

Snead carves up Patrick Peterson
You just can't spin it any better than this. He was like 13-14 for 220 yards and 2 TDs in the first half that day. The 2008 team will probably go down as my all-time favorite. RIP

This is all you need to see to understand why they must stay in place.
45k+ people kill themselves every year, and the vast majority of them likely have never even played football.
The recent exposing of fraudulent research doesn't help your point, either.

Yeah that’s targeting, damn.

Just because most people who commit suicide have never played football does not at all mean that CTE and the stuff that comes with it is not completely legit and extremely serious. When guys say they want their brain donated to science before killing themselves, it says a lot.

Well maybe I missed what you were getting at, but what were you trying to say by mentioning all the people who kill themselves every year who have never played football?

Football is a heavy contact sport. You play football knowing that.
When athletes are running full speed, twisting, cutting, juking, dodging players, jumping, etc. things happen in a split second. There are times that you simply can not avoid helmet to helmet contact (see the reasons why I listed above).
To say that players should be ejected due to a helmet to helmet hit when it's unintentional/unavoidable is absurd. The NCAA does what it does best....instead of reacting to something and using a common sense approach, they overreact.
Same thing happened in college baseball years back. There was a college coach that was nailed in the head by a foul ball and died. There are literally millions of baseballs hit yearly, but one happened to hit a coach in the head and he died. So, the NCAA decides to roll out rules to deaden the baseball bats. Homeruns, hits, AND attendance suffered due to the lack of offensive production and the growing pitcher duels that stemmed from the rule change.
Knowing the NCAA, and how everyone loves to pander to the PC crowd, college football will probably evolve to something very different than what we are use to. Then, the suit and tie dummies will wonder why TV sets aren't tuned into the game and why attendance keeps dropping.
There's no such thing as using common sense anymore. It's a "let's go jump off a cliff" type of reaction.

The point was made that "this is all we need to see."
I'm showing why it's an ignorant point.
