His performance against Arizona last year in the bowl game was atrocious and he has not gotten any better. Sometimes that staff is not the right one for you and you have been given too much too fast.

Think that might have ruined him. Looks like a kid that is trying way too hard to not make mistakes. That leads to mistakes.

Why would he go to an SMU when winning 8 games at Mississippi State could get him drafted? Winning 8 games at SMU would kill his career. Do you guys prefer not to play against him or his recruitment came down to OU vs SMU?

He received offers from a ton of P4 schools and ND.

Ole Miss, Tennessee, Ohio State, Flarda, Bama, Penn State, LSU, among others.

Vern gave up on him too quickly. You ran off DG for this kid. Stick to your guns and quit caving to the fans.

Yeah, that pick he threw in the first quarter was inexplicable. He had good protection on the play, had his feet set, was checking down options, and then throws directly to a receiver blanketed by multiple dbs.

It’s amazing how OU fans hyped him up for two years. Calling him Jackson F*cking Arnold and the next chosen one

Only to move on after 3 bad games. He’s still very talented

There are a lot of idiots posting about this situation

1. Every OU fan has emphasized that JA has top talent. Not one has claimed different. I suspect if he changes teams he’ll get it right and be a great QB. He’s just not great right now.

2. The OU program has always stated that one player is not above the team. That applies in this case. OU can’t sit idle to let him get right.

3. Jackson has failed for whatever reason you want to pick. No one truly knows why but he has failed. Once he gets right he’ll be an asset to whichever team he’s on. But I suspect once Hawkins takes over he’s not going to lose the job.

4. OU will not sit idle and throw any more winnable games away waiting for JA to get right, not when they have a QB who can play better. This is year 1 in SEC and there are no gimmies. OU must play the QB who gives them best chance to win and thats not JA at this time.

5. In this NIL age things are different. With players getting paid it’s no longer like old days where it was hands off talking about players. Fans contribute to NIL and will be more vocal than the past. This is going to put more pressure on coaches as well. Everyone remembers Gumby “I’m a man, I’m 40” speech. Coaches could protect players more in old days as they were student athletes and not paid athletes. It was hands off players. Now its changed and every team will face NIL related challenges.

He’s got some of the worst field vision I’ve ever seen. He ran a one read offense in highschool with crazy talent all around him. Hes never showed pocket awareness or the ability to go through progressions even in highschool. He also played QB what one season as a starter? We know you’d love for OU to sit the Justin fields clone but everybody including the staff has seen he’s the far better QB.

OU shouldnt be so quick to get rid of him.

Hawkins couldn't beat him out, after all.

If State was a 4-6 win team that was a good QB away from 7-9 transferring there with Lebby would make a lot of sense. That’s not the situation though, and Arnold will have more competitive choices available, probably within the SEC and certainly outside.

Who said OU is getting rid of him? The thread is pure speculation “if” he leaves via portal.

OU has never started a true freshman qb this early since WW2 and then on the road. Hawkins was better than JA in camp but it was chalked up to working with 2nds or types of plays or our defense was holding JA back.

Then the first 3 games it was “holding back playbook” and injured players. Yes, we have many injured players but the play of JA was bad no matter what.

Now we know Hawkins was better because if he wasn’t then BV would send out 5 yr QB Thompson instead of Hawkins in 4th qtr vs Tenn. to throw Hawkins out in that situation tells me BV knew Hawkins was the better QB.

What I’d love to know is did NIL delay the decision? Should Hawkins have started vs Tenn instead?

One comment I read from an OU beat writer was a what if. He said, what if JA redshirts rest of year? Last year got burnt so he can still use it if he wants. Then if he went to MS he would have 3 years left. But it would mean he can’t play any more for OU since he’s at 4 games.

Know you Sooner history. Troy Aikman broke his leg in game 4 of the 1985 season in a loss to Miami. True freshman Jamielle Holieway took over and started game 5 and led the Sooners to natty that year.

So no pressure on this new guy.

You're gonna need him as soon as the little kid gets broken in half or gets a concussion.

It will happen relatively quickly. He's Jane, plays like Tarzan. Hats off to him for his grit and all that, but he won't last.

That's weird, Aikman also got a concussion playing UT while at UCLA.

Did he transfer or something?

Let the hype train start rolling again! That definitely worked out well for y'all last off season.

Sure. We have as many QBs that finished their career at MSU, as of last week, starting in the NFL as Alabama and Georgia.

I’d like for him to stay. They had to pull him before he had a mental breakdown. Then Mike Hawk showed some gumption, made plays and got named a starter. That’s how competition works. If Arnold sees a shrink and works some things out he can still play.

You clearly don’t. Troy was on roster in 1984 a full year before your garbage timeline

quote:

Troy Aikman was the first true freshman QB to start at OU since World War II against Kansas. It was Oct. 27, 1984 ... 15 days before Aikman's 18th birthday. Went literally from redshirt/scout team to starter filling in for an injured Danny Bradley. Two weeks after the OU/Texas 15-15 tie.
