Sure- but what's $86 million in the big scheme of things?

It was the fact that LSU was sniffing around after Ed O. got fired. So A&M gave him an outrageous contract and the rest is history.

He got extended before Orgeron was ever fired.

Woodward knew what he was doing.

After the Aggy BOR gave him marching orders to get Jimbo to CSTX at all costs, which he did, he saw how deficient Jimbo really is as a coach.

Now at LSU, what better way to hamstring a division foe than to dangle enough bait for the LSU job that they secure Jimbo for another 10 years.

It’s really genius and it must be fully appreciated. Woodward fricked A&M so badly.

The real reason is A&M never learns. Anytime they have an above average season they get desperate because they don't want to lose them like they lost Bear Bryant all those years ago. They did it with Fran after going 7-5. They did it with Sumlin because they beat Bama and Manziel won a Heisman. They did it with Jimbo because they went 9-1 the covid year. None of them even won so much as a division title when they got their extensions

Jimbo was already making $7.5 mil, he was already making what he deserved based on what he had accomplished in College Station so far. He didnt deserve to be the highest paid coach in CFB. The Aggie athletic department needs to stop getting duped into these absurd extensions until at the very least they can make it to Atlanta. And that doesn't mean they need to go bargain bin shopping but next time a coach and/or his agent asks for a raise/extension while they haven't hit any of those milestones then I say call their bluff and say no.

Jimbo had this class coming in, he wasn't leaving, Sexton just played their athletic department for fools. There was no reason to give him that extension until he had actually won something substantial at A&M

Jimbo will leave A$M in worse shape than FSU when it is all done.

The damage to A$M will be so much worse. The SEC is the worst conf to get knocked to the bottom and have to work their way up in. Reputation with TX kids with other options in TX alone is going to be devastating.

With Texas coming into the conference, the bolded bit above makes Aggie's situation so much worse.

If you're one of the hundreds of blue-chip Texas seniors and you're looking for a university to play for, why in hell would you go to a dumpster fire like 4&8 when you could go to Texas and get the same amount of NIL money (maybe more) and play for a team that won't be in self-inflicted purgatory for the next 10 years.

No two ways around it - unless Aggie parts ways with Jimblow at the end of this year and completely cleans house, they're about to become the SECW version of Vandy for at least a decade.

Hell, kids might be better off playing for Rice, UTSA or SHS than Aggie.

That was before Woodward made it back to Baton Rouge. Alleva was flirting with Dumbo.

tamu had to fork over the money. LSU outbid them for Dave Aranda. LSU dragged their arse into court to collect Chavis’ buyout money. Woodward left tamu for a 10% raise at LSU.

Losing jimbo to “poor ole LSU” was an ego hit tamu just couldn’t take. Now, they’ll be paying for their prideful decision for years to come.
