You mean the ‘toxic situation’ many of your coaches just ran to in order to work with Brian Kelly?

Ofcourse no one is immune to it but schools with undesirable locations and other negatives will definitely see more transfers if the player feels the money isn't good enough to compensate.

Then you need to start paying your leading tackler more money cause he too is gone in the portal potty. Face it stupid, you are just as screwed when these kids leave as anyone else. And the last thing any head coach has is control over his roster.

I mean who would have thought that giving 18 year old kids a bunch of money would be a bad idea?

That’s why it’s ridiculous to get excited about recruiting anymore

My OU buddy was texting me the other day about a big prospect that committed for 2027. I just laughed at him and said that’s light years away in today’s age and all that means is he’s now open for business to take bids.

Read the thread title ffs gump. 2024 recruits. I'm not saying we won't lose our fair share but at least point to a fitting example.

They were already getting money it's just within the rules now. I think we should keep the NIL but do away with the portal completely.

NIL isn't the problem. The transfer portal not being tied to academic standing is the problem.

Shortly before Neon Deion Sanders was hired in December 2022, Colorado University announced a new policy that allowed a more generous acceptance of transfer credits from players’ previous schools – a policy that was mostly used by the football team and helped keep those incoming transfers eligible to play right away.

Nothing is stopping the Portal Potty train.

It's not like there's a choice of what's retained or eliminated, if any agency even attempts to regulate either, they will end up in court. The players, their agents and parents have all the leverage.

The people wanted this and it's here to stay.

I don't think LSU would beat Mizzou without JD last year and nuss in there instead. Regular season 2023 Mizzou ain't bowl game Wisconsin.

Nuss was in there while JD was seeing stars. He took a 1st and goal with a chance to take the lead and came up with nada.

Guys who just signed are already bailing on their teams.
Some, probably most were probably encouraged to do so. Can replace them with a better player from the portal.

Doubtful, it isn't that easy.

Besides, why go all in on recruiting a kid just to tell him to look elsewhere after one spring?

What's the point of having a "signing" day if they can just enter the portal the same year?

It's what people would do in basic training if they were allowed to.

The recruitment period is over buddy, turns out you're just another body now.

In the military, after you've finished you are grateful for being forced to do so and you gain a sense of accomplishment and you recognize you are better off for sticking it out.

But it's not going to give that instant gratification so many crave these days.

They need to close the portal up and teach kids a little about responsibility.

I must have super powers then, because I can 100% blame the kid for being a flake and skipping out on his commitment.

People made changes and so forth to accommodate him. He took up a spot another kid would have been more than happy to take. He's nothing more than a selfish brat who doesn't deserve the opportunities being given to him.
