I don’t know about elite, but he is certainly very good.

He’s also unemployable in today’s political climate.

Mike Boynton, former SC player and OK St head coach is my first choice

Absolutely elite. Who in SEC is clearly better? Not a single coach. Heck who in the ACC outside Coach K, Williams and maybe Bennett?

Wtf? He has had 1 decent year due to hiring #1 hs recruits kin to get his commitment.

And big pass on Marshall. I could handle him being a dick but big no on his crazy arse wife.

Gregg Marshall went the Bobby Knight route of putting his hands on people. He was charged with physical, verbal, and racial abuse. That won't fly in the deep south. He remained loyal to Wichita State even after many came a calling for his services. For that school to dismiss Marshall with his success and loyalty he has to be toxic.

You realize that all of this hinges on Ray Tanner, right?

His resume is no better than Frank Martin’s.

One final 4 in 23 years of coaching and that was close to 10 years ago.

He is far from elite

Yeah, the AD situation is going to be a bigger issue in any bball coach search than it was for football.

I think that Greg Marshall has the same problem that Hoiberg has at Nebraska - they were the first ones to play the transfer market before anybody else did and they built rosters of experienced players whose talents at the D1 level they knew exactly when they brought them in. Now the entire NCAA does that. Marshall's last 3 years, once they moved to the AAC, got worse every year. And that doesn't even mention the whole he was fired thing.

He's still a good coach, but the shine is definitely off a bit.

I'm not sure you can boil down an entire coaching resume to "years they went to the Final Four, years they didn't go to the Final Four".

Marshall wants nothing to do with the SEC, absolutely nothing.

Exactly. That’s why we ended up with Shane Beamer and not Hugh Freeze or Lane Kiffin.
