That is the SEC. Grew up hating teams like the Yankees, and Bama, and now it seems like the LSU and the rest of the SEC is on the inside looking out.

Bama fans are you used to this? Not a flame, but y'all have had the perception for a while. LSU fans i think always have a chip on our shoulder, now we are being called overrated, and hyped. Seems weird

When you're on top (or one of the teams fighting for it every year) - people are going to hate you. Doesn't matter the sport - it's going to happen, it's human nature.

Don't believe me? Then I ask you this - does anyone actually "hate" the Chicago Cubs? Bam! There's a reason for that...

I live in a Bama-dominated area and I work about 200 yards from Denny Chimes so I don't encounter many different fan bases. One of the guys I work with is an Auburn guy and we kid each other but always keep it respectful.

Same reason most fans root for Vandy unless Vandy's playing their favorite team.

I'm not hearing much talk of LSU being overrated. Just sayin.

And please don't ever compare LSU fans with Bama fans.

Absolutly. Great TV deal, unlimited money (to waste i might add), fans deemed "all frat boys and drunks" call wrigley the worlds largest gay bar, constant reminders of their futility at every turn

I see your point, but i think the view here is very regionally biased and not a true representation of the "average fan"

Much liek the "average fan" doens't hate the cubs most "average football fans" dont' hate the sec.

LSU isn't overrated. Who would seriously say that they are? (unless they're trying to get a rise outta ya).

Also, why can't the fanbases be compared? Both fanbases are accustomed to success. Anything less isn't good enough for both programs.

Alabama is the ones that everyone on the outside hates, because it is perceived that they don't belong in the title game.

LSU is undefeated.

It's funny that you mention how Bama is like the Yankees because LSU reminds me of the Red Sox with the recent success that they've had. Both LSU football and the Red Sox have had very good teams in the past but just couldn't get over the hump. Both have tremendous but extremely obnoxious fanbases. And just like the Red Sox fans couldn't stand the Yankees, they have slowly watched their team turned into them by signing free agents to incredibly large contracts. LSU fans hate Alabama's fanbase but their fanbase is becoming more like Alabama's every year.

This.

It's like watching what you want to be, finally achieving it and then believing you're better than the original. It's still a universal fact that Willy Wonka (original) is better than that bullshite with Johnny Depp though.
You get it.

bama fans under the age of 40-50 damn sure aren't. you need to just enjoy the ride. lsu fans do not need to get in anyone's face; the performance of the team does enough.

That's some passive aggressive shite right there if I've ever seen it. Congrats on proving the OP's original point.

There is a good article on ESPN about SEC hate, and one guy is ripping LSU for not beating Oregon at home, or not by enough. Somethign about playing at oregon and not getting "spotted" two tds.

Apparently the only way SEC can really prove we are better than some teams is if we play them at home, or in 10 feet of snow in some cases. Or without all our good players. THe excuses never end.

i agree the lsu fanbase is tremendous. and obnoxious is so difficult to define, unless really extreme, i have a problem with accepting your word for it. no offense meant at all. for example, shy people, while certainly not obnoxious, tend to think everyone else is. a lot of louisiana people are just fun loving, loud and up front people. i like that "persona" and do not consider it obnoxious at all. just sayin'

yes there are a ton of folks outside the south that literally hate the sec. i honestly think this is a key to the power of the conference. we stick up for the conference. i know i do. i'm on another site where they arent shy about their disdain for the sec. and i defend our conference to the hilt.

i know this may sound kinda odd. and i dont say this to be any way disrespectful. but i view lsu like a younger brother. one who is close in age. we all battled our brothers harder and more intensely than we did other folks. but at the same time we would defend them from outsiders with everything within us.

the similarities between these two programs is uncanny. yet they are different. just like brothers, that are very similar but at the same time they're different.

of course, it could be that my coffee is just too strong today.
