I just flipped through Maddox'es Tuscaloosa Improvement Plan.
The man is going to be governor some day.
Tuscaloosa will be sad to lose him.
That was the most professional and succinct document I have ever read from a government office.

You're the only one laughing at your jokes.

The same tornado that hit Tuscaloosa also hit Pleasant Grove, AL. Google Maps has updated satellite images of Pleasant Grove so if you want to get an idea of how destructive it was just look up this city on Google Maps.
damn.

A lot of the destroyed buildings have been torn down, but as some have mentioned, a lot of empty spaces, and gaps where trees and homes once were. Progress is being made though!!!

Saw the damage for the first time a few weeks ago. The remains of the hospital clearly visible miles away was an eerie sight.
Yeah, I lived about 30 minutes away from Joplin growing up, went there almost weekly for movies/mall and females.
Will never be the same or even close. Just wiped it off the map pretty much.
Between that one, and the Pierce City F3 tornado that I saw out of my parents backyard, I fear living in this area sometimes. Been lucky many times.

Pleasant Grove is where I helped clean up. Place and people of First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove still hold a special place in my heart. Those people were amazing.

It was mind-boggling and surreal seeing a tornado swirl in the distance behind BD Stadium.
As one who has experience with unforseen disasters (Hurricanes Betsy and Katrina) as well as Flight 759 that crashed in my hometown July 9 1982 when I was a freshman at LSU; I sympathize with T-Town.
Much good luck and renewed prosperity to you.

When I was there last year there was still lots of damage. It was reminiscent to NO a few years after Katrina; some spots are totally rebuilt, others still in ruins

Take your time and rebuild it right.

15th street is still visibly affected.
The thing that will take the longest are the trees. This area was heavly wooded with lots of very old oaks. This area was basically clear cut by the tornado.
It doesn't matter if they build everything back tomorrow--that won't be back for decades. :(

Yeah that would be the craziest thing. People don't appreciate trees until they are gone. While its not comparable in any way, we lost many trees to a big ice storm a few years back. That was disturbing. I can't imagine seeing old growth parts of town clear cut.

The area between Glendale Gardens and Wood Manor had so much tree cover the sun didn't even shine through some times. Now it looks like a landscape out of Nebraska.

Are people going to rebuild or just move on?
Posted on 7/27/12 at 11:52 am to NorthGwinnettTiger
There are some who are rebuilding but a large proportion of those affected aren't moving back.

Sad. I'd like to make it back over there next time I'm in Bham to see what it looks like. Was your home one of those affected by it?

Fortunately it was not.
