Pretty much. Florida was the most obvious sleeping giant, and Spurrier proved it by creating a juggernaut. Then Florida proved they could keep it going with Urban Meyer making them even better.

What amazes me is what happened after.

UAA turned into a bunch of overconfident cheap asses after Meyer left. Stricklin and stupid dumbass Chip and the rest of the Disney Gators in suits just assumed that they'd keep on winning because they were Florida. Florida was late to the facilities arms race, and Napier was the first coach to put together a giant support staff.

always felt UNC is a sleeping giant and if they fully committed to football instead of basketball, would be a top 10 program. they have money and the state of carolina has underrated talent.

actually they were that way because of spurrier

They were cheap asses during the urban period too, but he was good enough of a coach to overcome it. Part of the reason why he left for Ohio state was he saw the UAA was going to hold him back while Ohio state was serious about football.

The UAA’s cheapness caught up to them after urban however, as you pointed out, because there aren’t many urban caliber coaches out there to hide the deficiencies of the program

Sleeping Giant?

They were losing to Vandy on the regular, and not the good Vandy of recent.
