Pretty much. Florida was the most obvious sleeping giant, and Spurrier proved it by creating a juggernaut. Then Florida proved they could keep it going with Urban Meyer making them even better.

What amazes me is what happened after.

UAA turned into a bunch of overconfident cheap asses after Meyer left. Stricklin and stupid dumbass Chip and the rest of the Disney Gators in suits just assumed that they'd keep on winning because they were Florida. Florida was late to the facilities arms race, and Napier was the first coach to put together a giant support staff.

always felt UNC is a sleeping giant and if they fully committed to football instead of basketball, would be a top 10 program. they have money and the state of carolina has underrated talent.

actually they were that way because of spurrier

They were cheap asses during the urban period too, but he was good enough of a coach to overcome it. Part of the reason why he left for Ohio state was he saw the UAA was going to hold him back while Ohio state was serious about football.

The UAA’s cheapness caught up to them after urban however, as you pointed out, because there aren’t many urban caliber coaches out there to hide the deficiencies of the program

Sleeping Giant?

They were losing to Vandy on the regular, and not the good Vandy of recent.

Sleeping, yes. Giant, no.
Luckily for uga, GT is a very difficult school to maintain even a 3.0. Reason why many students lose their hope scholarship.

If it was like back in the day, GT probably still requires multi variable calculus, something foozeball players wouldn’t fancy.

Not enough Bear Bryants or Nick Sabans. Pretty simple.

nah Florida is a dead program. If you’re over the age of 25 you’ll never see the Gators win another national title in football in your lifetime.

I'd love for you to tell me why ga tech is a sleeping giant!

"They're in Atlanta!"

Ok that's one. What else?
Uhh....

Uproot UGA and put it somewhere else and it's still successful. I mean Alabama is the best program of all time and look where it's located. Uproot tech and put it somewhere else and what have you got? Crickets. Just because it's in a mecca for black people doesn't automatically make it a "sleeping giant".

I agree with A&M and Auburn. I don't know GT well enough to argue. Florida was my first thought for SEC members.

Miami. They were a giant... The potential is still there.

Tulane is not a 'sleeping giant' but what's preventing Tulane from at least jumping back to a G4 conference? Do you think if the SEC expands, Tulane gets an invite? I know.. small private university, yada yada.. but they have an outsized endowment, great location for recruiting, I don't know if they have the NIL capabilities but seems like they have tons of potential.

Georgia Tech?

Tech doesn’t have the resources or commitment to football needed.

FSU, Miami or Clemson all have big followings, resources, loyal fans and recruit at a high level ……and their conference is soft. Any of those three schools with the right staff could be the Ohio State of the ACC if they got their shite together.

What happened to Clemson this year was inexcusable.

You need to worry about LSU. I doubt Lame Kiffin will get LSU a championship. He is more like Kelly 2.0.

They have had some very good teams in the past, and they seem to be getting stronger right now.
It is possible they could become very good, but they need their administration and student body to get behind them and support the football program financially.
There is a lot of talent here in Georgia and in Florida.

IF GT does turn it around and become very good, I think it would affect Auburn as much if not more than Georgia, though.

Not sure why people feel this way, honestly. True they have a very talent rich state, and are right next door to Georgia, another talent rich state....but they also have Miami, FSU, Georgia, Clemson, Alabama and Auburn right at their doorstep recruiting against them.

COULD Florida turn it around? Yes. But it won't be as easy as many think.

It hasn’t been that way for many years and academics is a bullshite excuse their fans like to use. They have built in degrees just like every other program in the nation.

Now, if Tech were to join the Big 10 & start giving some admission preference to state of Georgia residents? Could be possible It seems like Georgia high school students rarely plan to go to Tech right out of high school.

Won’t happen. They make too much money off of foreign students.

Aggies are a much bigger sleeping giant than both UGA and GA Tech.
