I can see it being nearly impossible to go undefeated now with the balance of power. The playoff is going to favor weaker undefeated teams. Like BYU going undefeated. No way in Hell they do that playing weekly in the SEC. Let an ACC team go undefeated, a PAC 12 and a Big 10 team like PSU that sucks balls. There is no way a 1 loss SEC team gets in but I know a 1 loss SEC team beats those 4 every time.

Previous years there were 2 teams vying for a title.

Now there are 4.

It may or may not help, but I dont' see how it hurts.

BCS used a formula that took into account ranking. Polls don't matter anymore. That is how. Undefeated teams who played a tough enough schedule not to be penalized will squeak in over the SEC which is murderers alley and then get's pissed on for a weak OC schedule.

The SEC dominance may continue, however I doubt we will ever see 2 SEC teams in the playoffs in the same year. The rest of the nation is tired of the SEC and with a group of people making the decisions, a one loss SEC team wont get in over a undefeated champion of another conference.

The top SEC team will always get in, that won't change. However, you will never see two SEC teams in the championship again.

The Computers really helped the SEC. Taking away the Computers will hurt the SEC.

SEC will be fine.
The real worry is ND. They could limit power five to only 3 slots if they go undefeated or have one loss. This could leave a 2 loss SEC West winner out in the cold.

Like the poster above said, the only scenario I see the SEC being left at home is with a Notre Dame team having a great year. Even then you would need a couple undefeated conference champs

In general, in any given year:

Notre Dame is a lock anytime they finish with 1 loss.

SEC is good as long as Alabama, LSU, or Auburn emerge. Probably A&M, Georgia, South Carolina or Florida. Arkansas and Tennessee are strong maybes. After that, gets real iffy.

ACC is safe as long as Florida St is able to come out. Miami, Louisville, Clemson, VT fall into the "maybe" category.

Big 12- Oklahoma or Texas are in. Otherwise there will be lots of sweating.

Pac 12- Oregon or USC would be locks. Stanford is probable.

B1G- Ohio St, Penn St or Michigan would get a big push. Michigan St or Wisconsin would get a look.

Teams like BYU, Boise and whover's in the former Big East would get a chance if undefeated, depending on the rest of the world. If they are fighting for the last spot with a 2 loss VT, Wisconsin, Arizona St, Kansas St or similar, they have a good shot.

I love the new format and I hope I never see more than one SEC team in the playoff.

I am sick of stupid voting and polls. The SEC champion will play for it all. Auburn now controls our destiny EVERY year.

ESPN no longer matters. finescum no longer matters.

If we win, we move on.

If we lose the SEC, politics come in and who cares. We did not deserve it anyway.

They should've gone +2 to start with for the playoffs. The Top 8 teams. You could even work in something where the Power5 Champions are represented and then 3 At Large/Wild Card teams.

Of course then we'd have 3 SEC Teams in the Playoffs every year, and the other conferences would be pissed off. However, that provide for a more honest playoff that actually has the best teams.

Given that strength of schedule no longer matters, I think there's a very good chance that it will. I also think that combined with the push for supposed P5 matchups/P5 superiority, it may well wind up killing off a lot of marquee OOC matchups instead of increasing them. Teams will schedule the Wake Forrests of the world and that will be enough. Why schedule a good team when you can schedule a team that simply has the right membership?

The BCS had unbiased computers to weight who you played and who you lost two against the opinions of polls which rely a great deal on last year or even year's of reputation and simple Ws and Ls - those alogrithims checked the quality of a win or a loss and balanced things against popular opinion/polls. Humans simply don't operate that way and ultimately the selection committee will be under pressure to represent multiple conferences regardless of more unbiased ways of selecting teams as well as under pressure to select teams multiple tv markets -- and don't think catering to more eyeballs on tv sets won't influence selections because it will.

I assume you're talking in generalities and not specifically about this year. I'd be stunned in the B1G produces an undefeated team.

Otherwise, I agree with you. Especially since each division appears balanced within itself.

It's why going to a 9 game schedule, at this time, would be insanity. You'd just be increasing the odds of NOT producing an undefeated or one loss team, while the B1G's fatten up on in-conference cupcakes.

It's also why these cross-conference Power 5 games are hugely important. It'll be the only way to prove to the committee that SEC quality is light years ahead of these dogmeats.

The real wild card, however, will be Notre Dame. You know the committee will bend over backward to include them.

If there is a one loss SEC champion they will always get in and in most years a two loss champion would have a shot.

It might hurt but not for the reason everyone believes. By allowing 4 teams in the playoffs you are more likely to actually get the two best teams. If we closely examine the run the SEC went on several title games didn't include the actual two best teams in the country. Theoretically playing a tougher opponent on a weeks worth of prep will make winning that game more difficult than donkey stomping OSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, etc…in the past after a month to prepare when the better team was playing in another bowl.
