re: Is the new narrative that LSU's D played well and wore down late due to their offense?

Alabama had 150 yards in the 1st quarter - you really blaming that on the LSU offense?

Partially yes. LSU being unable to get first downs gives the ball right back to Tua.

Plus, yards are great and a nice stat to throw around, but LSU did hold Bama to 9 points until what? 90 seconds left in the first half.

Even with the score in the last minute (which would not have happened if LSU had gotten another first down) the LSU D held Bama to less than half of it's first half point average on the season.

As always, the D did enough. The offense came up severely lacking.

I thought LSU D played pretty well to be fair.

Put Alabama offense in LSU uniforms and vice versa and play that game again. I seriously doubt Burrow would move the ball against LSU defense and Tua would do a damn sight better against Bama defense than Burrow did

LSU defense didn't have a chance with the way the offense performed by the end of that game.

That is fair to say

LSU's elite DB's keep this guy under 50. Bama's receivers couldn't/didn't break those long TD's due to LSU's athletic DB's. The other 6 guys up front for LSU including Lb'ers are average.

George the only limitation on the Alabama offense Saturday night was Alabama itself

No way - the LSU DBs played a pretty damn good football game. Considering they were basically in pass skeleton for the whole game with no pressure on the QB, their performance was admirable.

George I have to disagree with you. Where LSU struggled to get 1-2 yards, Alabama struggled to get 18-20 yards. It was just a total dismantling of the LSU defense from the opening series

Dude did we ever have a 5 minute drive. We have no depth on defensive front

Yea, that is very true and we clearly wore the defense down in the 2nd half.

We also had 300+ yards and 16 pts at halftime.

LSU didn't play BAD on defense, but they weren't holding us down and just wore out late. They were semi-effectively making us work for points by conceding yards in a bend but don't break scheme, but we were still on pace for 30 pts and 500+ yards pretty much the entire game.

I'm not saying they sucked, but they weren't great and just got worn out. The DBs were fantastic pretty much the whole game.

I was fairly confident going into that game, but when we matriculated down the field (wink and nod to Homer) so easily on the first drive, though we didn't score, and then held LSU to 3 and out, I felt real good about it. When it became clear they couldn't run on the UA defense, I figured it was over already.

I can relate to that. The lack of an offense that could sustain drives, and I'll be even more brutally honest; the lack of a quarterback that could sustain drives beat us vs Clemson for the 2016 season national title.

I agree, at least for most of the first half. The Burrow sack just after the INT was the kill shot, and I have to imagine totally deflated the stadium's atmosphere. And they did get absolutely no help from the offense, but it was just a horrible matchup for LSU on that side. That OL is just bad, and Burrow just isn't a guy that can carve up a defense consistently.

And Ensminger isn't able to call a dynamic enough gameplan to make up for those issues.

Oh well. O fixes it or he's a dead man walking into next season.

The idea that the LSU D "did enough" is laughable. Did enough to what? Yes, they did enough to lose by fewer points than they did. Be proud, The LSU did "enough" to lose.

As long as the D doing enough to lose is your gold standard, it is going to be a very long time before LSU regains the right to the false swag you guys attempted to voice on here the last two weeks. But hey, you did enough.

The narrative won’t die.

LSU’s defense gave up 18 1st downs in the first half. 18!!!!

LSU’s defense did not force a single 3 and out. The entire game.

LSU’s defense gave up 320 first half yards.

They played well relative to the other defenses Bama has played, but they were supposed to punch Bama in the mouth and then “we will see how good they are.”

The DBs are very good.
The LBs are good.
The DL is dog shite tier.

This is not an elite defense.

Where are they rated in the SEC?

Exactly - before the game it was "Bama has never seen a defense like this" and after the game it was "we were just trying to slow them down a little bit and we only gave up 300 1st half yards and 16 pts so that is pretty good".

I don't even disagree with #2, but in light of the last 2 weeks of talk it seems like there is a disconnect there.

Then we get the "I'm not sure why other fan bases are talking shite, Bama blew out everyone". No shite, we were just trying to say it was going to happen again with LSU.
