I've contended for a decade now that neither of these traditional powers has the recruiting base or national draw anymore to compete with current elites. I still feel that way about Nebraska. But, Tennessee should have some ability to reach into Memphis (which produces the necessary thug quota, but is also a hotly contested recruiting ground), Nashville (growing and heading towards full thug potential), and neighboring southern states. Can Tennessee avoid the Nebraska problem? Not to mention that Tennessee has shown to have the worse, dysfunctional school leadership of the two.
Incorrect and moronic from the first word to the last. Congrats

Every time I watch or listen to a Nebraska game I think we’ll they are going to win this one, then they collapse and lose. They were up 11 in the game against Northwestern in 3rd with 5 minutes left. Simple truth is winning is contagious but so is losing.

Tennessee has had a winning season since 2019. Nebraska & LSU have not.

Tennessee a traditional power?
Believe it or not college football is older than 30 years old. Just be appreciative of programs like Alabama and Tennessee for making Southern college football a big deal culturally.

UT had very little to do with that.

Nebraska is the only 2022 team to have a losing record in 2 countries

What has really hurt Tennessee is the emergence of Clemson.
This is, 100%, the answer. Tennessee used to raid the talent-rich Upstate with impunity until Clemson became a juggernaut and was able to sell players on the SEC experience (culturally and athletically) in a less difficult conference. They neutered not only the Upstate to Tennessee pipeline but usurped the Vols in terms of overall regional recruiting, perhaps dating back to Tajh Boyd decommitting from Tennessee after Fulmer's ouster in 2008.
Tennessee can be great again, but it will be a lot easier if Clemson starts falling off and (in a perfect world) winds up on the outside looking in when the SEC expands again.

The emergence of uga hurt the vols going back decades. Clemson is more recent.
Thanks for AD Mitchell and Zion lounge though. Y’all could have used them.

The problem Tennessee has is that you have Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida St (and Miami to some degree) right in the backyard of its recruiting region all competing for the same players. That's just brutal. Someone has to come out on bottom.
