On one side you have a defense decimated by injuries and an offense that just lost their best player (and one of the best in college football) two weeks prior to the game.

On the other you have a team that has a chance at a 10-win season but has shown a tendency to not show up on offense against the best defense they've faced, and a coach that some feel is one more loss this season away from being shown the door, buyout or no buyout.

Bama's fanbase is spoiled and Auburn's is suffering Gus fatigue. Neither feels very confident they'll win.

At least y'all have pro football to cheer for.

Are you a Saints or Falcons fan?

I’m convinced both fan bases think their team is going to lose the game

I haven't come across a single Bama fan that is convinced we are going to lose. Most just have no idea what to expect with Mac Jones at QB. There's a lot of nervousness and uncertainty that honestly hasn't been there in quite some time, especially this late in the season, so Bama fans don't really know how to cope with it.

Bama fans are nervous for the entirety of every game they play.

And we know how they cope with it.

I mean I’m a little surprised Auburn fans aren’t feeling some confidence. Solid defense against Not Tua at QB with JHS crowd on their side? Bama defense that has been a shell of its former self all year?

We expect a competitive game

We want the win obviously, but we know if we win media and Bama fans will try and put an asterisk by it (as though we haven't run out backups at key positions regularly in the Iron Bowl). But also, none of us really view Alabama as a legit title contender at this point, so ruining their season isn't as much of a motivation as it might be otherwise. Personally, I think our defense deserves to go out on a high note and I hope they get the win as a reward for their squandered masterful performances all year.

But there's just a lot of Gus fatigue. A win against Alabama, for various reasons, probably won't impact the feelings about Gus much at all.

In short, I think JHS will be lit for the game and we'll all be into it come Saturday, but both sides have some reason to be apprehensive. I would think Alabama would be pretty motivated considering they can beat Auburn with a backup and get into the CFP, so I'm not sure why they're lacking swagger.

IMO this is the issue with Auburn. It's hard to invest emotionally in a product that you know will likely let you down in a game like this one. It reminds me of UCF, Wisconsin, uga 2016, etc...we probably should win but you know Gus will Gus it up.

That being said our FPI is only a 36% chance...which surprises me.

It's only the first choice of CBS.
CBS didn't even bother with the LSU-aTm showdown apparently.

I’m stuck in the “how will Gus mess this up” stage. This year he seems to really screw up in big games.

Plus, there is a certain element of bama fans that are mentally crazy. You all know about Harvey, but every year during this game somebody gets shot. Usually one bama fan shooting another, but you have to be careful which bama fans you have fun with.

Tua injury took more steam/excitement out of this season than any injury I can remember. Not just at a competitive level either, but deeper more personal level as well.

As for the Iron Bowl we get our trash talking on this one done in person and at the Thanksgiving dinner table. I don't think it has ever been really crazy on this forum pre-game for this game. Afterwards (particularly if Auburn wins) it's usually a little more robust.

Alabama is expected to beat Auburn. If Alabama fans were posting threads about how confident they were, it would diminish the win. The narrative has been set that Auburn is going to destroy Alabama. Anything less than a 14 point Auburn win will be touted as a moral victory for Alabama. They turned a one-sided loss at home to LSU as some sort of fluke, why not do it again?
