There’s plans to do a lot to the stadium including put grass in but nothing was going to move forward until all the football indoor facility stuff was funded. That already happened and I’ve heard no updates to the baseball plans so I don’t see much happening any time soon.

Y’all have had some form of artificial turf since the late 70s. You sure that’s supposed to change?
considering the AD says it is.....yes.

AD said 2 problems. There is a concrete base originally installed for Astroturf. That would have to be jackhammered. Underneath that is solid rock, which would also have to be jackhammered to install drainage and irrigation.

I would imagine the expectations for turf now is a little different than it was back then. I can look at the area around home plate and there are dead patches everywhere. Here's an aerial shot. The field looks like shite TBH. I'm not trying to defend field turf, but having problems with a rock layer below and that causing issues with grass management is a thing and not exactly a cheap fix.

quote:I've always heard Texas has more money than God. Fix it. Get turf management consults from either A&M, MSU, Auburn or UGA. All have excellent turf programs. Got all of that money just move it to another part of campus. They also could consult with MSU on drainage. That turf looks old and hard. The ground ball skid rather than bounces. Doesn't belong in the SEC unless maybe Missouri. I don't think it's even necessary at Vandy. Doesn't Kentucky have real grass?

nope which is hilarious for the "bluegrass state"
Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Vandy, UGA, and Oklahoma all have turf fields
Vandy's turf was awful this weekend. We had a guy that hit a cap shot ball slicing to right field yesterday and when it hit the ground, it somehow took a bounce directly 90 degrees to the left. I don't know if it was seams of the turf or what but some of the bounces i saw this weekend defied physics

We lost Nolan Souza last year sliding on the carpet into 3rd at Georgia.
I'm almost 'ok' with turf inside the diamond and in the outfield, but man, gimme dirt base paths please
EDIT: I stand corrected. Agree on the turf mounds!

It's FieldTurf, it's not hard.

frick the SEC. We don't give a shite about "being SEC" or fitting in, frick all of you. That said, 7 of 16 SEC teams use turf, including founding members Tennessee, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Georgia. Who gives a shite.

Until somewhat recently, I think the only SEC school who had turf was Vandy. Tennessee and UGA both switched in the last 5 or so years, UGA more recently. Kentucky’s old park had real turf. And obviously OU and Texas weren’t in the SEC.

Those b&w photos of the old ballpark are kinda cool. Never seen them before.
