When was the last time you saw an elite OU squad?

Neb still recruits top 25. When did they fall out of top ten after they fired frank? The introduction of the west coast offense(forgot coaches name)

For now. But what happens when they hit a rough stretch and their national recruiting image suffers? This is what happened to Nebraska and Arkansas.

I think OU's long term future will resemble the modern day Arkansas program. Arkansas used to be huge in the Dallas and East Texas recruiting scene. But they hit a rough patch and never truly recovered.

Then there's the fact that OU has been getting away with recruiting well because they win. But they win because their recruiting is far superior to the rest of the Big12. They've been stuck in a beneficial vicious circle where they've faced no real threats. Outside of Texas, OU hasn't faced a conference opponent that recruits Top 10 classes since the 1990s (and that was only against Nebraska).

All that changes next season.

Blue blood that has no natural recruiting advantages. Check
Cheating fvcks that manipulated the system to their benefit. Check
Shithole that no one would want to willingly live. Check.
Delusional fanbase that thinks they should be automatically in the playoff because of their history. Check

It all checks out as a huge YES.

I think the SEC will keep them from turning into a Nebraska who committed existential suicide with the B1G move.

I do however think they will have some tough sledding now that the portal and NIL are out there.

Sadly they'll never be the new Nebraska due to a little thing called geography. It wasn't an accident Oklahoma decided to build their premier "house of lernin and stuff" so close to the Texas border and not Kansas, Mizzery or Arky.

I wouldn't expect most here to know this, but people coming to the RRS in Dallas from Norman have a shorter drive than anyone in the Austin area. They also heavily recruit the DFW metroplex full of good high school players. Corn cut their Texas pipelines when they joined the B1G...thereby cutting their own throats.

Yes, NIL plus the SEC will kill OU. It’s a broke arse school that can’t compete in modern times now that paying players is legal.

I’m surprised, I fell asleep with Oklahoma up 24-13 and looking good. Wake up and 3 of the next 4 drives are turnovers and they get drilled.

When did they actually win a meaningful championship series game. Think it was like 2001 or so! Otherwise they ran through that shitty conference going undefeated only to loose again and again and again and again in the first round game. So they feast in cupcakes and take a spot that should have gone to GOOD teams.

Norman is almost as far north as you can get in Oklahoma. Substantially closer to Kansas. Without looking, I'd wager a shorter trip from Norman/OKC to Arkansas and Missouri as well, and not just to the border. Especially in the case of Fayetteville.

You are a terrible troll.

Not quite but 100% on bad troll callout.

Interestingly, OU’s closest SEC opponent (Arkansas) is closer than Florida’s closest SEC opponent (Auburn). Not intuitive as things space out more heading west.

Fair point I haven't thought of they will get access to talent rich areas but man it's already highly competitive recruiting area, ou will have to outmuscle the sec clem fsu Mia ohio st notre dame. They're going to have to get creative with recruiting and nil. I do think they have more support than arky but the situations feel similar
