I grew up on tCoast and have long considered LSU our primary rival. If you live anywhere south of Jackson, excluding the Jackson area and, perhaps, Laurel, you probably hate LSU more than you do State.

There are more LSU fans in Harrison County then there are Ole Miss and State fans, respectively.

I, for one, will be insufferable the week after we beat the kitties this year. The only time I've ever wanted to beat someone so bad was the last game against t.u. I'm not ashamed to admit that.

You under estimate just how many Auburn students are from Georgia.

Auburn and Bama fans love to trivialize each other by claiming other teams are more important to them. The reality is that no one game can rescue a season or destroy a season in the way that the Iron Bowl can. And deep down, Bama and AU fans know it. Admitting it makes their rival more important and that is why they won't acknowledge it. Bama and AU would miss each other 10x worse than Texas misses aTm. It's hatred for one another that has made both teams so successful the last several years

I agree in sentiment except that on an individual level, I find the Georgia game more personal and important. I'm from Georgia and have always ever viewed it that way.

But when answering the question "Who is AUBURN's (not my) biggest rival?", it's indisputably Bama. I imagine people in the Bama camp from Tennessee or near the border might feel the same way as I do about Tennessee.

My bullshite detector goes off when people claim on behalf of either entire fanbase that a secondary rival is more important.

All that said, I think a higher portion of Auburn fans truly see Georgia as a rival more than Bama fans truly see Tennessee as a rival.

Feel the same way. We did what was best for the conference given the circumstances back in 1992, to try and help out Arkansas and South Carolina. We were ripped from playing FL and TN as a result.
Did AU have a choice in the matter or did the SEC force y'all due to expansion? Kinda sucks for AU to have to give up UT/FLA just to make room for the expansion teams back in '92.

AU/UF still played every year up through the 02 season. Only 1 permanent cross-divisional opponent after that.

I agree in that the old UF-AU game was one I looked forward to. There were some classics in there. 82,83,84, maybe the best were 93,94. 89 was a great one too.

There 2 rivals for Bama. Auburn and UT. Those games, especially AU, take FOREVER to get over in losing. I spent maybe 15 minutes on losing to Ole Miss last year. Number one MSU comes into BDS and there is absolutely no electricity. LSU is a big game but I don't hold any kind of grudge against them. I actually wear LSU gear when they play Auburn. Also have an ole miss hat I wear when they play Auburn. That's when you know you have a rivalry.
I just wish they would arrange these divisions where the "eastern" schools play each other every year. Bama, UGA, UT, Auburn, Florida. I couldn't care less about going to College Station, Fayettville or Baton Rouge. I don't really consider those cities in the southeast. The furthest west the SEC should be is Oxford or Starkville. Let LSU, Arkie, Mizzou and A&M run the southwest.

When this was all being discussed back in 1990 when the decision was made. First Florida state received a call and wanted no part of it. Bowden even said as much.

On the Auburn thing, the initial setup was to have Auburn in the east. The SEC was extremely careful to preserve the SEC while adding growth. This championship game was not met with great approval. Most people, including me, didnt want anything to do with it or SEC expansion. When they were looking at traditional games there were a few UA-AU, UT-Bama, UT-AU, UF-UGA, LSU-Ole Miss and the egg bowl that were simply to be protected. AU and UT had grown in popularity as well. In the end, nobody wanted the IB to possibly played twice in a season, 2nd the powers that be felt that AU-UGA, Bama-UT, Iron Bowl, Egg bowl, Magnolia Bowl and WLOCP needed to stay. Something had to be cut and 2 of those were AU-UT and AU-UF because the Iron Bowl was too big for the SEC to stop and TDSOR, 3rd saturday, magnolia and egg bowls were SEC cornerstones so we got what we have now. AU was involved in the talks as all schools were in their schedules and the final decision on AU was to keep UGA vs Florida or Tennessee which Patrick Fain Dye was very vocal about keeping and probably spoke for Auburn in this decision.

Accurate for USC, for the most part. UGA has become more intense in the last 10-15 years, no doubt. But now that we're playing UNC on the reg again, that has the possibility/opportunity to overtake UGA.

SC shares a border with GA, and a decent amount of culture. But NC and SC share a border, a name, and absolutely nothing else. I hate those bastards. A lot of the older Carolina fans do, too, and a great majority of that stems from the days of wandering around the ACC.

I could stomach losing to UGA next year. But a loss to UNC and Clemmy would be f'ing disastrous.

I'd say CU, UNC, NCST, and UGA for us

Don't think I'd include UNC and NCST anymore. Maybe for some of the older generation fans, but I grew up in NC, live in Raleigh now, and nobody talks or really cares that much about us. There's some animosity over the "real Carolina" thing, but with no games scheduled after this year against UNC and so few played in the past 20 or so years, it's hard to call it a rivalry.

Spurrier wanted to play them every year in Charlotte and revitalize the old rivalry with them, but they declined.

The past 4 years when I was at USC, it was 1. CU and 2. UGA with some people (not from SC) saying they cared more about the UGA game.
