His defense at Miami in 2022 was 65th in the nation
Seems Chavis-esque
And why did he leave Saban in 2008 to go to Clemson? Did Saban run him off?
Then he got fired at Clemson?

Didn't Steele try to stab Malzahn in the back at Auburn?
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, I'm actually loving the thought of Malzahn getting stabbed in the back...
But has Nick just hired a locker room cancer?
Even Chavis was never a locker room cancer...

No one is stabbing Nick Saban in the back at Alabama.

Miami can’t be used as a bench mark.

But Steele will be getting his Alabama state pension, so he's untouchable

I know a former school janitor with an Alabama state pension. He will be happy to know he is “untouchable”

Both are from Dillon, SC and played at Tennessee in the late 1970s, don’t think Steele had Chavis’ killer Afro though

I know you have been here for more than 15 years, crusty old man, but Alabama fans exist in other places.

Is Kevin Steele the New John Chavis?
Here's the fact of the matter - Steele was hired to do four things:
1. Be a placeholder until the guy Saban really wants on the defensive side is able to be hired
2. Instill more toughness on defense
3. Improve the linebacker play
4. Mentor new coach Armstrong, that guy has a bright future
Am I ecstatic over the hire? Probably not as much as I ought to be. But I generally try not to second guess Saban too much, he makes a LOT more money at coaching than I do. If Steele can do these two or three of these things well, I'll revise my hire rating to "successful hire".
And BTW, here's a bonus: I think Saban brought in Kiffen/Sark etc because of the offensive arms race in College football. And arguably Alabama has been rather successful at it. But, at the core, Saban would rather run the ball and play smash mouth football. Georgia has proven that you can control the ball, both run and throw, and decimate opponents - just like Bama used to do when Kirby was on Bama's staff. Rees gives us an opportunity to get back to that style of football. I predict the TE play will be off the charts next year.
But hey, all of the above is JMHO. For what it's worth.

Just don't schedule West Virginia and you will be fine. I think they just scored again.
