Same was repeated numerous times last year.

Just to clarify, Vanderbilt doesn't go beyond the 11.7 scholarships allotted. The Opportunity Vanderbilt program defrays some of the cost for all students on campus that qualify based on need and each student's FAFSA. Yes, it is a substantial benefit but when you consider the large disparity in cost of attendance (especially in-state) between Vandy and the rest of the conference, Vandy would be at a huge disadvantage without it.
Point was Vandy gets to hand out more "aid" than other schools they are competing against. Even in lottery scholarship states the kid first has to even qualify for that (academically) which isn't necessarily easy and it';s not the type of money typically Vandy can offer.
The biggest reason Corbin is getting all this talent on campus is more than other schools is being able to offer more financial help.
The 11.7 rule is really old and needs to be increased by a lot with the state of college baseball. This is the biggest thing holding back college baseball right now IMO. To take it to the next level they need to offer 25-30 full scholarships.

I think Florida has more talent year in and year out than anyone and yet fail to win a national title. They always choke in the postseason. I'd give Mainieri the edge over Sully. Corbin might be better than Sully

If you are talking who is more elite you have to include NC won. That is really the only difference between the two coaches.

But as it stands vandy can offer additional financial aid to most of the team.

Vandy for free
People on tRant love to throw this around. Since it's based on FAFSA, only those that come from lower-income households (Ro Coleman may fall into this category) would attend for free or close to it. Most players on the team still pay for some portion of attending Vanderbilt, as Dansby Swanson did for his career at Vandy.

Probably. LSU has more baseball talent than anyone in the country and we have struggled in the postseason since our win in '09.
Have you seen the talent Kevin has brought in since '08?

So you have a few players with rich parents. Vandy players still, on average, get a whole lot more assistance than players at other schools do on average. You couple that with Vandy's education, it's not as shocking they r been able to convince 1st round draft picks to turn down millions of dollars to play college baseball.

Yes, but the cost of attendance is "a whole lot more" as well. It would be interesting to compare out-of-pocket expenses for the same student across schools.

You don't even know how many Vandy players are going to school cost free, nor would Vandy ever disclose that. But I can tell you one thing for certain, there's a reason Vandy kids turn down millions every year and that reason isn't because they have always dreamed of playing college baseball

That's why the out-of-pocket comparisons would be very interesting. Admittedly, the combination of a Vanderbilt education, Corbin's track record of developing players (particularly pitchers) into MLB-caliber players, living in Nashville and Opportunity Vanderbilt is a combination that's tough to beat right now.

Could not find the stats but as I recall, Corbin's over all record, SEC in particular, is not that great? He's had 2 good teams recently, but then, his last year's team was horrible. A great coach is consistent.

Making CWS final is hardly deemed horrible.

Corbin has made the NCAAT 10 straight years and has been in the CWS the last 2 seasons (and won it once).

So much fail in one post. He must be confusing Cohen with Corbin.

Yeah I read the initial post as Cohen not Corbin. Corbin is on the elite level for sure.
