Isn't conf. tourney champ the conf. champ?

the ACC is the only conference where there isn’t an official regular season champion. The tournament champion is deemed the conference champion. This came about because back in the day, only one team from the ACC was granted a berth in the NCAA tournament and for that to happen was to win the ACC Tournament.
As far as asking if the conference tournament matters? 2008 Georgia would say yes.

This is the correct answer.
I think it also varies with which program you are. Kentucky winning another SEC Regular Season title isn't going to be that big a deal to them. They are a program that only cares about winning a national title, and anything else is not going to move the needle (for good reason).
Winning the SEC Regular Season Title is a big deal for basically everyone else. LSU fans were excited 2 years ago. Auburn and Tennessee fans were excited 3 years ago. It's a big deal to do something that your program hasn't done in 10 years (Tennessee/LSU) or 20 years (Alabama/Auburn). No matter how a season ends, the regular season SEC Title will matter and be remembered.
I'd imagine these schools would be very, very excited if they won the SEC Basketball Title
- Ole Miss (never)
- Georgia (1990)
- Vanderbilt (1993)
- Arkansas (1994)
- South Carolina (1997)
- Mississippi St (2004)

Meh, not really. Probably because I’m an older fan. I could give two rips about a conference title. I want to be in the hunt for a top 4 seed in the NCAAt and I want to end our S16, E8, F4 drought.
Again, I’m an older fan and judge seasons success by what happens in March not the regular season. Obviously, if a team shits itself in the regular season then there is no NCAAt.

LSU baseball isn't quite on that level, but it's sort of a similar situation. I still love winning the regular season and/or tournament title. But, by far prefer the regular season and have never referred to our team as "the conference champions" if we only won the tournament.
I mean, in basketball the top 4 teams only have to win 3 games to win the tournament.

Regular season because the NCAA sets the field before the SEC tournament is over since it ends just hours before the selection show and winning it only makes a difference if you weren't getting in at all. Then you probably bump another SEC team.
This year it's all or nothing for UK. Based on yesterday's effort it will be nothing.

2) SEC season champs
3) SEC tournament champs
1) SEC team that advances in the ncaa tournament
3) SEC tournament champs

SEC Tournament is pointless, as are all conference tournaments (except for making a bit more money).

Just to recap this thread:
First place and regular season champs Alabama fans think it’s 100% the regular season (and this is the correct answer).
Second place Arkansas, which is the hottest team in the SEC that is the favorite to win the SEC tournament as of today, obviously thinks it’s the SECT.
I see what’s happening here.
