Is Derek Henry the least hyped pre-draft Heisman winner in history?

We all know why, but the media usually at least tries to hype Heisman winners. With Henry, it seems like they won't even try to convince people he's going to be an NFL star. He wasn't even a top 3 back in the SEC, and shouldn't have won the Hiesman.

He has decent vision, but he's desperately unexplosive, and has almost no cutting ability. He's fast once he has time to build up speed, but he won't be able to bully NFL D-Lines with pure size like he did in college.

Full disclosure, I think he's a good kid, and I hope he has a solid career, but I don't see him being better than a lower tier NFL back, and it doesn't look like the media does either.

He needs to go to the right system and he'll be a solid NFL back. He won't be Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch, but I think he will have a solid career if he stays healthy. He's probably the 2nd best back in the draft at a position that doesn't draft guys high unless they are "generational" type talents, so he won't get a ton of hype. He will be a 2-3 round pick and go to work.

Yea, he should have run for 3,000 yards last season, then maybe he could crack the Top 5.

RB's are almost a dead position in the NFL. If this was 1985 he'd be a top 10 pick.

In today's NFL you'd be crazy to take any RB in the 1st round.

RB's are mostly utility players in today's pass happy NFL.

Why are you sitting around wondering about this? If he makes it he makes it, if he doesn't he doesn't. He still won the national title and a Heisman at Bama. I love the kid?

Chubb, Fournette, and Collins ahead of him i'm assuming.

He's another Brandon Jacobs, I think he will be the 3rd RB off the board.

What?

Speak English.

And no. You've never heard of Eric Crouch?

Correct, I think Chubb and Fournette are in an entirely different league, and I think Alex Collins is marginally better.

Yea, I wouldn't be surprised to see his career go something like that.

Even if you do think that, Henry's actual performance on the field was very much worthy of the Heisman trophy. Should McCaffery have won instead? Maybe, but the idea that he "didn't deserve it" is asinine. Any opinion to the contrary of that is just being obtuse.

TE's don't do bad in the NFL and I'd imagine they have a longer career than RBs.

All jokes aside, I think if you put an uninjured Nick Chubb in the 2015 Alabama offense, 3000 would have been a real possibility. 2500 for sure.

Sure, if you don't think he will be picked above what others were drafted...

Troy Smith 5th round
Gino Toretta 7th round
Ty Detmer 9th round
Doug Flutie 11th round

Because of our amazing QB play and OL play? That's just stupid.

Which games would he have outperformed Henry in?

Gone for 250 vs Wisconsin?
Gone for 200 vs Ole Miss?
Maybe 400 vs A&M?
How about 350 vs LSU?

He got a nice trophy and a ring for his troubles. He should be close to his degree so there is that if he misses in the NFL...

This doesn't really make sense.

In answering what I think you are trying to ask, guys like Troy Smith, Jason White, Eric Crouch come to mind as having less pre-draft hype than Henry in the modern error.

Almost exactly who I picture him as. That is not a knock either. Were it not for some bad health, Brandon Jacobs was a very serviceable back in the NFL. Generally good for positive yardage unless the OL just gets blown up, may not break a lot of huge runs, but the football equivalent of a "singles hitter"... get you 2-5 yards on 1st down to set up shorter 2/3 down plays.
