re: Is Bobby Petrino bigger than the Arkasas football program?

Jeff Long hot boxed Petrino to come to Arkansas. If Petrino hadn't left Atlanta immediately and got on the plane with Long and came to Arkansas, Petrino would not have got the job. Our program was as low as it had been since 1992 and the Citadel game. It was some of our darkest hours at the end of the Nutt saga.
Petrino took that step and endured severe national criticism for that choice. Petrino endured that criticism to successfully rebuilt our program.
Now, Petrino is going through some of his toughest times. I am very disappointed in him but I am willing to give him a chance at redemption.

I'd be willing to bet that a majority -- if not a vast majority -- of Arkansas fans share this sentiment. Arky's successes have been good for the SEC overall.
The question at this point is whether the PTB at Arkansas would be willing to slip a knife between the football program's ribs in order to feign the moral high ground.
The more I think about it, the more I begin to doubt that they would.
I may be cynical as hell, but firing a coach for a "moral" misstep (even having a morals clause in a coach's contract) strikes me as a hilariously empty and sanctimonious gesture; it is not in human nature to be so pious. Everybody fricks up.

I'm really surprised at the vitrol in this thread. i was complimenting Arkansas. if I though y'all were Mississippi State or something then I would expect you to hold onto him with everything you have.
I see Arkansas as a good program both now and historically and I think y'all could move on and still get a very good coach to come there.

it's a shame nutt used arkansas as a stepping stone to ole miss. he took the program to heights that petrino would have never gotten to.

You ever heard of Bill Clinton? As far as a job for his mistress, she has a finance degree and MBA so she's not dumb. And the fact that she was a scholarshipped athlete at UA leads me to believe she would work well with potential UA scholarshipped athletes.

No vitriol intended in my post.
Please understand, a lot of us are still processing the information (I also had a surgery on Weds and am still on pain meds, not joking) and coming to grips with the situation.
Long is still looking at the facts, so my opinion may change if more information comes to light.
I will say, I have seen a lot of SEC (mostly Rantards) fans wishing we would fire Petrino. It tells me they view him as a good coach making Arkansas very competative. I have also seen some support from other SEC fans (usually SEC Ranters) for the Hogs, our fans or even Petrino.
It's really a lot to take in.

So are Arkansas and LSU rivals or not. I think you guys should have a sit down and agree to be or not to be rivals. I thought before we came to the SEC that you were but, this needs to be formally settled.

The OP edited his original post...wow. I guess he changed his mind regarding Arkansas fans having a false sense of entitlement and that Arkansas fans are stupid because we think we belong in the SEC. At least Crow Pie stands by what he says. Man up with your statements or STFU.

seriously? you say this based on what?
based on the fact that no one wants a yahoo guy sniffing around their football program. and, this situation will bring them around if arkansas can't resolve it quickly.
i'm not bashing arkansas. i've lived through enough dumb coaching antics and stupid administration decisions to last me a life time. i feel for you.

IMO keeping him on would be a tacit admission by the administration that he's the best Arkansas can do
He's one of the best in the country when it comes to running a football progam...Of course he's the best we can do
