I don't know why Georgia fans are so offended by this. Alabama's offense was essentially completely overhauled from 2020 to 2021 as we lost just about every player who produced in a significant way going into last season (save John Metchie). We lost our offensive coordinator, our starting QB, our starting RB, our two best offensive linemen, and our two best WRs. All of the aforementioned players are doing good things in the NFL right now while our OC is currently the head coach of Texas. You really have to go back to 2014 to conjure a time where Alabama lost as much in leadership and at the skill positions.

Last year was a rebuild year for Georgia. Prior to 2021 we lost: -Top 4 corners -starting safety -top pass rusher -starting MLB -starting TE -two starting OL Due to injury we were without our starting QB, another starting OL, top WR, two other WR, new starting TE.

All true and you didn’t even include the suspended top pass rusher for 2021.

I mean what? That’s the exact definition of a rebuild.

The point was he does it every year. I didn't get it because it sounded like he's saying it was different last year. Given the players they lost (not what he said), I can see it.

But as far as replacing players and losing players to the NFL early, that happens every season with them.

Not offended by it at all. Just the way he described it being a rebuild wouldn't make it any different than any other season for you.

I mean Jesus Christ if someone were asked to define a rebuild, they would probably say;

1. Lost a ton of high end starters

2. Wildly inconsistent team

3. A significant drop off from the previous year

Saban makes that point and everyone loses their fricking minds

It's weird to me that you all talk about reloading all the time and are offended that someone would say "don't you do this all the time".

The question would be, why was last year's team a step down (not saying it was, seems to be what others are saying) compared to others when you were just doing what you always do?

If you want to say the overall caliber of talent lost off of the 2020 team was just better than you normally have to deal with, that's fair.

Ironically, that's what I said and you responded with your diatribe to that one. Not the other guys on here saying it's making excuses.

I think it's fair to say it was his best coaching job. And maybe the guys they had stepping up next weren't as capable as they are used to.

There are a ton of variables and I don't know bama's team well enough.

Someone said to look at the 2019 class of Alabama (one of the all time high ranked classes) and see all of the perceived misses.
Is that Saban's best coaching job in 2021 (coaching em up?).
Or is it doing the best with what he has 3 seasons later?

I can acknowledge that I'm Bama ignorant. But when the goat is making excuses to the media... that I can pick up on and notice. It isn't the traditional Saban where everything is calculated to helping his team get better. Excuses from the guy who runs Alabama football like an authoritarian. I'm not used to it. Neither should Bama and LSU fans who see and hear him all the time.

It probably was. Leadership was probably harder to replace than the talent lost. The 2021 team clearly was talented. But they honestly overachieved when you consider how they played most of the time and where they ended up.

Did anyone actually listen to the interview or just jump on the handful of words in the response to a question?

Why do you think last year wasn’t a rebuilding year just because Bama has reloaded in the past?

If there is context, please share it with me.

Saban is usually very calculated with his words. He knows it only takes one sentence to have the media do a week's worth of coverage.

But no, I don't listen to Sabans press conferences. I can trust you to fill me in on the context that 2021 was a rebuilding year in retrospect.

Weird that he refers to it as "rebuilding" as if it was different than the norm.

2021 was not a herculean shift in rebuilding but it was more daunting than most. It was not much different a task to when LSU had to replace what they lost in 2019.

Alabama lost a quarterback who won the Davey O'Brien and was a Heisman finalist, a wide receiver who won the Heisman, another WR who was the sixth player taken in the draft, a RB who won the Doak Walker and was the first RB drafted, a starting CB who was the SEC defensive player of the year and drafted 9th, their starting center who was drafted in the second round, a starting guard drafted in the sixth, a starting TE signed as a UFA, and a starting linebacker. The team had enough talent that their long snapper was drafted. They also replaced their offensive co-ordinator, qb coach and rb coach.

LSU had a bit more of a task because they also lost their defensive co-ordinator along with more key defensive players and were left with a coach I believe honestly thought he had done more than any of the folks that left.

Is that a reflection of the talent in the 2019 alabama signing class?

A reflection of the staff coaching up the talent in the 2019 signing class?

What changed from the 2018 signing class?

I think it’s a combination of the single biggest talent exodus of the Saban era plus the fact that it’s hard to repeat. Perhaps player leadership is missing or they aren’t as hungry

You might see it with Georgia this year. The talent is there but they just don’t seem to have that edge that the previous team had

Because you've used the term "reload" and said you don't "rebuild". And losing a ton of starters and replacing them is something you do every year.

I'll state it again if needed. Think this is like the third time..maybe more.

As I noted earlier. It's fair to say the talent loss was greater from 2020.

Last year was a rebuilding year and was pretty universally called one prior to the season for all the reasons Glorious set out. We had an incredible group in 2020 with both talent and leadership and lost almost all of them. We had 6 guys drafted in the first 24 picks and 8 in the first 40. On top of that they were all alpha dog leaders.

They were a very good but also very flawed team last year. Call it whatever you want but it was clearly a year of transition after losing the guys we lost from the 2020 roster.

Alabana has been “rebuilding” since Clemson whipped that arse silly on the big stage.

And if not for a joke Covid season, Alabana and Texas A&M would have the same number of titles over the last half decade: Zero
