I enjoy watching the gimmick offense. To answer your question, Auburn has not had any success on the field since they hired Chizik so your question is silly.

This isn't a shot at Auburn, I'm just not sure you can define "success" with their season last year.

I would think Florida, Tenn., UGA, bama, and lsu would not be happy with their season last year. LSU had a better season and the fan base isn't happy.

Compared to 2008, 2009 was a success.. Considering we had a completely new staff and came away with a bowl win is a miracle if you looked at our depth chart.. Add in the large stride in recruiting, I think we're above where most thought we would be right now, including myself..

For their "rookie" year, I think you can call it a successful year for The Barn. They beat the other 2 rookie coaches, which kinda says something. Chizik might have hired Malzahn, but Malzahn was clearly the reason for what success Auburn did have. Offense improved, defense fell....plain and simple

I have to give credit to Chizik. He set the tone and sent the message that just because Saban is at Bama does not spell doom for Auburn.

In spite of the fact that it does spell doom for Auburn, he has them believing otherwise.

Well those teams also weren't in the same position as Auburn the last 2 yrs either...LSU fans are not happy because they realize their program is headed down...bottom line...improvement is success. When you go from 5-7 to 8-4 there was success that was not there the year before.

I guess by your own analysis, going from 8-4 to 9-3 would be improvement, improvement is success. therefore, the bottom line is lsu's program isn't headed downward.

just using your own statement/words to show what little merit it has.

I think programs rise and fall based on the talent more so than coaching. in lsu's case, louisiana hasn't produced the same type of elite talent it had the previous five years. 2011 is the class that turns that trend. since 2004 there hasn't been a speers, wroten, dorsey, williams, tyson jackson, whitworth, to come out of louisiana.

The west was dominated by Au and lsu since 2000. Now it will be bama and lsu. Bama is winning the talent war in bama. Au was winning it before. therefore, bama is rising and Au isn't. i'm hoping Au can split the talent in alabama now. If so, both teams will be good, neither great.

In the early 2000 miami was winning the recruiting war in florida. now that myer is winning that recruiting war, florida is king. miami, not so much. go back to the 80's and early 90's f.s.u. won the war and was king. lesser talent, bobby couldn't win at the same level and he's out.

ole miss lost the recruiting war with cutcliff, ogeron wins it and the rebs have been good the past two years.

tennessee is down because they don't have a haynesworth, henderson, mayo, munoz, stallworth, manning ect.

uga is now slipping in the recruiting war. they aren't getting the elite talent in georgia now. it's being split between tenn, Au, ga tech, clemson, f.s.u., ect.

great talent makes great coaches. plain and simple. saban, myer, carol, brown ect are/were great because they got great talent. saban went 6-6 the same record as shula the year before with the same talent. he wasn't some great mastermind of a coach. he brought in mcclain, ingram, cody, jones, ect. and bama got a lot better.

Louisiana has been producing a lot of talent over the past few years. It's at least about what Alabama is putting out.

Auburn has never owned Alabama. It's always been a split. Auburn always has some random guys from Georgia and Florida mixed in. A split doesn't mean anything now either. Alabama is an elite program. They can recruit anywhere in the southeast. A split of Alabama won't matter as to have Alabama just start looking at Mississippi and Louisiana for similar talent.

To my actual point. Recruiting gives you the pieces to build that national championship house but the coaching staff has to build it. Put things in the right places. Get enough of the supplies you need and the quality you need. You have to put the right guys in the right places. Keep the chemstry going right and keep them focused. Football is a mental game as much as it is a physical one. This is why you have a coach. Talent helps out a lot, but if you want to win championships you have to have the coaching and the talent. If not, you have top 5 talent and go 9-3 every year.

I'm pretty sure you guys who say Gus now are some of the ones who called him "gimmick Gus" before and during the season. Funny how that turned out.

Yeah, 3-5 IS funny as hell. We sure learned our lesson.
