Pretty hard to gage for the month of October.

I would say that they are somewhat overrated by a lot of people due to the facts presented in the OP. but they are still really good.

I think UFs D is better, but Bama isn't far behind. Then there is a pretty big gap to number three in the SEC.

I think if you look at most of the top defenses, they probably play offenses with a similar average.

That was a complete joke.

Or maybe it was your sarcasm I overlooked! I'm so confused.

I wouldn't say its overrated but I believe last year's bama defense was overrated. Any team with talent, on offense , last year moved the ball well against Alabama. Lsu , UGA, and A&M all
Moved the ball extremely well against Bama's defense last year.
It remains to be seen this year. I do know Auburn gave up less yards against A&M than bama did and the game was later on the year, which( if you listen to aggies) their team gets rolling later In the year. They are basically unstoppable LATE IN THE YEAR

I will say that Mett and LSU's WRs are a concern. Alabama's weakness on defense is still occassional blown assignments in the secondary. The key is can the opposing offense spot the blown assignment in time and deliver the ball? Often times teams don't have the QB / WRs that are capable of making you pay on those occassional blown assignments (this happened a 2-3 times in the UT game where UTs offense just didn't execute).

Mett and Beckham / Landry will spot the blown assignment and execute more often than not so Alabama has to get more sound there. The bye will hopefully help the team continue to adjust to the loss of Sunseri and allow some of the young corners to correct some of the fundamental issues.

And you might as well take out A&M because Bama wasn't impressive at all against them. The most impressive game was easily against Ole Miss. A shutout against a Top 40 offense is quite the feat.

Ole miss refused to kick fgs that day. They should've had at least 9 points off easy fgs. I don't know what freeze was thinking.

Watching a lot of LSU's offense recently, Mett throws a lot up for grabs. Some are good throws, but covered well and good DBs (looking at Belue, LC, and HaHa) could have made plays on them. They'll get theirs.

If Mett has time, Bama is vulnerable, but it has to be decent time. JFF makes it when he needs it. Mett folds. Literally.

Bama doesn't get pressure well and a worse lsu oline last year held against bama.

I love it when LSU fans define degree of difficulty of field goals.

LSU is 2-4 against Alabama in that time frame. Try again.

Lsu has beaten bama 9 times in 12 years.

Bama doesn't have to worry about Mett running, though. The defense can pin the ears back and go after him. Let Hill get a lane on a draw or something, he won't beat Bama alone. Mosley/A'Shawn get good interior pressure, I expect CJ to blitz a good bit. If Bama gets out to a nice lead early then it's over, Hill won't make up the difference alone and, while the WRs will get theirs, Bama will be able to focus solely on rushing Mettenberger.

But I don't know if we'll get the pressure. We'll try, but we haven't had enough opportunities this year to try that. We've played too much of a contain front.

LSU's offense played really well against Bama last year. And scored 17 points. Going to take a good bit more than that most likely.

What's your prediction on this game? Could be one of the higher scoring Alabama - LSU game in quite some time I think.

Bama's D has held every sine opponent below their average. In fact, Bama has held those teams an average of 15 points per game below their PPG average.

IMO, this is the true measure right here... can a defense hold the opponent below their season average?... 15 ppg below their season average is pretty dang impressive.

Yeah, UA really hasn't had a reason to show many blitz packages this year, considering the lack of a passing threat in most games. Letting the D line do the work has been sufficient. I'm sure UA will come at Mett though, considering you can't give him much time to sit in the pocket.

There's just some unknowns about UA's defense I'm anxious to see. I really can't gauge how much of a chance AU has. The LSU game will be telling on if I should watch the Iron Bowl without UA fans

Bama's defense seems great at times, but they're not a total shutdown defense like Bama's 2011 defense was. Man, that 2011 Bama defense was special. We'll see if this years defense can keep improving, but unlike past Bama teams. I'm not so sure a shutdown defense is needed with Bama's offensive capabilities this season. Now next season with a new QB at the helm, a shutdown defense would be nice.....lol
