The last time they were relevant was around the 1940’s, right?

Well total student enrollment is 65,000+. Total corps members about 2500 or so.
Just under 4%. About 10% of the total student population is greek... sorority or fraternity. Is A&M a military academy? Hardly. Does A&M have a military tradition? Sure. T R A D I T I O N.

All Land Grant colleges were required to have mandatory military training for first and second year male students for 100 years. Since southern states were a few years late to the Land Grant system.....(Civil War).....compulsory ROTC ended at most SEC Land
Grants in the late 1960s. It ended at my alma mater after my sophomore year. But because I was an idealistic gung-ho patriot ......with a low number in that first ever draft lottery......I stayed in for a commission and 2nd Lieutenant pay.

Really? That low?
Heck the Citadel has about 2,300 cadets. But the total enrollment is only about 3,500. The additional 1,000 student are in the evening college as graduate students or online enrollment.

The Cadet Corps made up less than 5% of the student body when I was a student. That was when it was only 44,000.

Of the ~2500 Corp members each year, less than 50 each year continue in some sort of military service. It’s been like that since the 80’s.

50 percent. There were 74 at my commissioning alone and over 200 just in my year group.

Yes and it is surprising to most folks that don't actually visit Texas A&M or go to a game in person. ESPN, CBS, etc.... show the corps of cadets on the sideline, in the stands, and of course the band almost nonstop during televised games. It certainly looks like that is the majority of the people on campus if you go by TV. Much much different in reality.
