Saban lost to a rather shitty South Carolina team by two touchdowns in his fourth year IIRC.

Rationalizing what? I'm simply saying its dumb to compare O at LSU to Saban at Alabama at this point, our fans dont want to hear it but O hasn't built up the recruiting enough yet to "reload."
2020 LSU is relying very heavy on the 2018 recruiting class which realistically was closer to State than Alabama, especially when you take Chase out so basically we have a below average class (for LSU) with no returning starters or experience.
I could've told you from the jump that LSU wouldn't be very good this season.
