Covid helped normalize it and now it will be here to stay long after Covid is gone.

Football Players are gonna start skipping their whole Junior seasons now and Basketball players will quit as soon as they know their team isn’t gonna make the tournament

fricking Sad.

Only way to fix it is to pay them more than they do to play in bowls or expand playoffs.

Certainly not the only way to fix it. Sounds like you like DiBlasio’s idea of paying criminals not to commit crime

What? Where’s the equivalency between criminals and athletes?

In my opinion, I think that there should be a "deadline" to opt out. Give a player a set date like the trade deadline in the NFL and if they don't quit by that date, then the player must finish the season.

If a player opts out during the season (except due to injury), they should be required to pay back all scholarship money for that year IMO. He committed to play in return for a scholarship. I know in the grand scheme of things these guys that are looking at millions of dollars in the NFL/NBA may not care, but it's a start.

The NCAA needs to raise the minimum requrements for entrance into college. We need smarter athletes who will have a better grasp of the long term detriments of opting out.

What are the long-term detriments of opting out? And exactly what do the data points say about smart people who know how to count their money and properly evaluate risk/reward for themselves?

I have no problem with opt outs let the guys getting paid six figures, figure that crap out and if it works out for the kid so be it if it doesn't then that's the consequence they have to deal with

I agree

Once a team is eliminated from reaching the CFP(2 losses), any player with a top 3-4 round draft grade will "opt out"

Covid has nothing to do with that. Fournette sat out LSU's Citrus Bowl after 2016.

I know this is a sad attempt at a troll but Fournette had had been gimpy the back half of the year with a hamstring injury. The coaches sat him. Fact.

I'm not aware of it happening in the playoff. Coach Saban said interest in bowls was going south long before covid showed up. We had HCs in college football that didn't want any part of their bowl game or some of their regular-season games and postponed or canceled. Sankey would tell you players are not opting out any more than a lot of coaches and ADs.

This analogy will surely be one of the top 5 dumbest things I see on this site today.
