Give a player a set date like the trade deadline in the NFL and if they don't quit by that date, then the player must finish the season.

Finish the season or what? What’s the consequence for quitting after that date? The nfl isn’t gonna care as long as they’re good.

Covid helped normalize it and now it will be here to stay long after Covid is gone

Agreed. We'll start seeing guys like Clowney play for one season and spend two years "training for the combine". The only way this stops is if the NFL front offices unanimously start dropping draft grades for the players who do it.

What better way is there to evaluate a player than by watching him actually play against competition? If you go to Bama for example, you are practicing every week against NFL level talent so what is quitting going to do for you that actually playing won't other than to avoid an injury?

This always gets said but this generation is legitimately chalk full of pussies. They’ve mostly spent their entire youth having folks coddle their feelings and hand them participation trophies.

Truly sad

Fine. It’s not always going to work in their favor. Jamie Newman thought he was a Top 5 QB this year. Opted out and he completely dropped out of the picture.

Reinstate the rule that allows HS basketball players to go directly to the NBA. That might eliminate 10 or so players from going to college but you reduce the star players who are simply "marking time" by going to the one year of college because the NBA says that have to do so. The NBA doesn't want this because too many teams made horrible draft decisions drafting kids right our of HS.

In football, you expand the playoffs to 8.

I agree with your premise: quitting is now been normalized. It will stay that way until the GMs penalize players in the draft for such behavior.

I agree in principle but then there is the “I’m injured” excuse or to play half arse to avoid contact as much as possible

You also eliminate all this basketball cheating with these one and doners. They aren't there to get a degree and they've been made to go to class and are long gone after their first season. They will always be perfect candidates for AAU and big businesses like Nike and Adidas. They spend millions to get these best of the best kids branded toward their product at a very early age and push shady HCs into the bidding process.

Get one and doners out of circulation and make it mandatory that if you go to college you stay at least 2 seasons.

Covid has nothing to do with that. Fournette sat out LSU's Citrus Bowl after 2016

Sad Troll attempt

I'm not talking about missing a bowl game, but players "opting out" after first or second loss, that eliminates them from CFP and still have games left in the regular season.
