As a taxpayer, I don’t want my tax dollars for education being used
to subsidize a pro or semi pro league for the NFL. I doubt you agree
with what football would look like in a true free market system. It’s
socializing the costs and privatizing the losses for most schools
and conferences.

Privatizing the profits.

Monopolies are not a free market basis. Monopolies inhibit free market flow.
Not true.
Monopolies are typically not the result of free enterprise, but they totally could be. Maybe not in market equilibrium, but that’s a concept that doesn’t exist in reality. Read some Rothbard (the most pro- free market economist of all time)
Not sure what monopolies have to do with being pro-NIL though. Are you saying the NCAA is a monopoly? NIL hasn’t created an NCAA competitor. The schools are monopolies? I mean there’s hundreds of them.
I mean the players are closers to being monopolists than the schools. Take someone like a Zach Edey coming out of high school. He’s going to be probably the only guy with that particular skill set, he has a monopoly on his supply.

the "great" Milton Friedman argued that monopolies SHOULD exist, as long as they arose from the free market, and the great Milton WAS WRONG

Is pio actually banned?
No. I actually met up with him in Little Rock the other day. He is just really upset about the current state of Arkansas athletics and doesn't feel any need to post here at current. Pio is alive and well, and wanted me to send his warmest regards.

Free market doesnt mean no rules. CFB is also not a free market at all. Its a market regulated by the courts akin to "rent control"
Players even just a few years ago were willing to play cfb for just paid tuition. Even this was overpaying. There were thousands watching CFB even when it was glorified frat boys playing. If glorified frat boys paying their own tuition were still the players, fans would still be tuning in.
Its not like you had players opting out of CFB because they werent being paid. Thats because the schools were the product, not the players. If there was a market for 19 year olds to show off their athletic ability throwing, catching, tackling, etc then the free market would have created a 18-24 year old league separate from CFB.
Your free market argument is bunk. Its an artificial market created and enforced by the government.

Yeah, it seems the "free market" we're witnessing is simply strip mining.
From college sports to health care to rampant corporate chain everything to overseas manufacturing, the dynamic is too often that which created historical examples like the Dust Bowl.
Everyone grabbing theirs and running without any long term vision that actually benefits a wider, sustainable economy.

Translation: You're an Alabama fan and you're throwing a temper tantrum since other programs can now pay players like yall've been doing for 70 years

Why should we be slaves to any politcal or economic theory that is clearly destroying things we love?
Every situation is unique and must be looked at accordingly. If turning college football into a lawless free market enterprise ends up destroying something we love, we should oppose that and correct it

So free market is great, unless some poor kids are getting some money?

No, the free market as we know it, whether the market is investment banks selling crap securitized products to retirees, giant faceless health insurance companies anchored to maligned incentives, or college players getting paid by cucks that will pay them, is completely out of control.
When things are out of control, they’re what we call “overextended,” when things are overextended, push hard enough, and that’s when things break, companies fail, governments collapse, and we have recessions or even depressions.
You’ll get to all of this when you reach upper division Econ, young man.

Monopolies that exist because they provide a good service aren't really a problem.
Monopolies that exist because they buy out competition and politicians are a big problem. They are only monopolies because competition isn't allowed, not because they provide a superior product/service.

So you don't support amateur athletics in college?
Player were already getting paid through scholarships and many other benefits.
As a result of NIL we now basically have pro sports in college.
Congratulations!!
