You do realize that according to you, LSU has won only 2 national championships. This year doesn't count since #1 LSU played #3 Clemson for the title.

2003 - #1 BCS LSU vs #2 BCS OU (OU was ranked #3 in AP/UPI)
2007 - #2 LSU vs #1 Ohio State

Alabama has played in 8 #1 vs #2 bowl games (won 6) for the championship. (2 before the BCS and CFP). Probably still more than anyone else.

Alabama's National Championship games (#1 vs #2)
1978 - #2 Alabama beat #1 Penn State in the 1979 Sugar Bowl.
1992 - #2 Alabama beat #1 Miami in the 1993 Sugar Bowl.
2009 - #1 Alabama beat #2 Texas in the 2010 BCS @Rose Bowl.
2011 - #2 Alabama beat #1 LSU in the 2012 BCS @Sugar Bowl
2012 - #2 Alabama beat #1 Notre Dame in the 2013 BCS @Orange Bowl
2015 - #2 Alabama beat #1 Clemson in CFP @Fiesta Bowl

The overwhelming down votes are indicative of the lack of LSU support for this post

We have 4. Only one was not 1 vs 2. That was in 1958.
Wrong. LSU would have only 2 (2003 & 2007).
1958 #1 LSU played #12 Clemson.
2019 #1 LSU played #3 Clemson.

You do realize that LSU played and beat Clemson who was ranked number 3?

Does that count?

Ok this is dumb. are you technically correct? yes. but if there had been a poll between the semifinals and the finals Clemson would have been 2. theres plenty of other meat on this stupid bone to pick at, why you gotta go full captain literal?

1965 National Championship Game - #3 Nebraska vs. #4 Alabama

Because Bama won the AP/UPI in 1964 (polls picked before the bowls) over Arkansas, the AP waited until after the bowls in 1965 to vote their champion. The UPI (coaches) still picked before the bowls and even though Mich State lost their bowl game, they still claim the UPI title. So Bama and Mich State share 1965 national championship.

The Big 8 champion, #3 Nebraska Cornhuskers (10-0) faced the SEC champion, #4 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-1-1) in the 1966 Orange Bowl. Due to the fact that #1 Michigan State and #2 Arkansas had both lost earlier that day, this Orange Bowl became the de facto 1965 national championship game. With the win, Alabama claimed its second consecutive national championship and its third in five years.

And if my Aunt had a dick she would be my uncle.

There was not poll between the semifinals, so Clemson was not ranked #2.

This also affects Alabama's 2017 title. Bama played and beat Georgia (the famous 2nd & 26) in the CFP.

But if you check my post LINK, you'll see I did not count 2017 year for Bama, because Bama was ranked #4 and Georgia #3 when they played for the title.

OK, let's just do away with history and do it your way. Bama would have 1978, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, & 2017. LSU 2003, 2007, 2019.

Bama 7; LSU 3. Happy?

Side note... 6 out of those 10 natties were Coach Saban teams.

From now on, I will no longer refer to the 2019 LSU team as the national champions...

BCS was a true 1 vs 2
This is correct as far as counting #1 vs #2 in the BCS poll but not the AP.

Your mistake was thinking the CFP is #1 vs #2. It's not. It's a 4 team playoff and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th team can play in the Championship game. If the team ranked #1 gets beat in the playoff, it's not a legitimate championship game, according to you.
