Curley Halman would have taken LSU to the 1993 SEC Championship game

Crap, you might be right.
We were 3-5 in conference that year but 3 of the losses were to the SEC East so we were actually 3-2 in division that season.
One of those wins was over Alabama, who finished 5-2-1 in conference. Bama's 2 losses came to Western division opponents. They tied Tennessee.
Didn't bother yet to see what Arkansas, Ole Miss and State's divisional records were that year. Auburn was already on probation.

Thanks.
I've just been waiting for someone to give the flip side of things.
The more games that figure in to the equation, the better the chance for the best team to get to the SEC championship game.

So, Curley leads LSU to an upset in the '93 SEC Title game and we play Fla. State in the Sugar Bowl at 6-6.

Yep, that's the legacy of spurrier--completely true, and obvious statement, that is no even remotely hyperbolic.

I am a Spurrier fan but don't agree with his thinking on this. Go back a # of years and UCLA won the division but lost all of the outside games ended up like 6-6 still went to the Rose Bowl.

Ya, I love Spurrier, but this is a really stupid idea.
I mean, I can't blame him, being a coach in the SEC East... but c'mon.

I think if the very name of the game has championship in it, regardless of record or who the opponent might be.....Bama should get to play in it.
Ill just leave this vasoline right here.
