SMUs best wins were against 4-loss and 5-loss teams.

I've thought SMU is a top 4 team all season.
i don't consider the name on the jersey, just the eye test
most teams could not come back down 17 in the 4th to Clemson and tie it.

Bama's only good win is UGA who struggled in many games this year.

SMU had a different starting QB for the BYU game. BYU is a good team too.
ppl mention Clemson lost bad to Georgia but at that point Clemson was not starting Wesco and Moore at WR, two freshman. Clemson didn't seem to get any credit for scheduling Georgia.
