If only there were a road map for these football playoffs...

1978 - 4 teams
1981 - 8 teams
1982 - 12 teams
1986 - 16 teams
2008 - 20 teams
2013 - 24 teams
The main difference between FCS and FBS is the conference championship games. They can keep the bowls and make them host playoff games and pay for everyone's travel expenses.

We’re not the fcs, there should only be a few teams.

They are both in the NCAA and there are a comparable number of teams in each division. Name another sport where less than 5% of the teams make the post season. By having so few teams in the playoff, you are keeping the majority of the teams from ever participating. I don't know about other countries, but that is not the current model for sports in the USA, and especially amateur athletics where the federal government will intervene when they feel like people are being left out.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, 12 is more than enough to include every playoff worthy team, and most years that will mean 4 too many.
If you'll watch FCS games you'll notice the players are barely above large high school program in size and speed. When you don't have NFL size players clashing every Saturday you can play a couple extra games. Not to mention for most FCS players college is the end of the line for their football career so they aren't as worried about injuries with extra games.

If people were worried about the skill level they wouldn't watch anything below the professional leagues. I will watch any sport UF participates in. Even women's basketball.
My point is not to argue that this should be the model. I am just telling you where it is going, like it or not. The people running things want to make money, and don't like to hear people complain about the system being unfair. All these arguments are the same ones people made when they were expanding the basketball tournament.

100% false

Exactly! FCS playoffs and D2 for that matter have this long figured out.
I think taking the top 16 ranked teams is the way to go. The low seed hosts the 1st round on their campus then neutral site bowl games for the quarterfinals in.
No more championship games.

If you have 3 loss teams in the playoffs, you have too many teams. That is 25% of your games.

It happens in high school football, pro football, and even other divisions of college football, but by gosh it shouldn't happen in NCAA Division 1 FBS football.
Is this the argument you are making?

That is, in fact, the argument I am making. College football has always been great because the regular season matters. Every game matters.

I agree with you.
But I think with people screaming about unfairness after the first 12 team playoff, it is going to expand.

Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina each won 6 of the 9 games they played against teams that were not rent a wins. One of Ole Miss' other wins was 4-8 Wake Forest. These kinds of records do not deserve to be in the postseason.

The teams who aren’t the best but pretty good want more slots because that’s the only way they’ll make it more frequently. College football isn’t that important to me to take mid teams in.
