Actually, thinking about it if we did go to 20 splitting into two 10 team divisions might keep it more like old conferences. Differences would be losing some traditional teams from your old conference. 12 game all conference schedules so 9 division games and 3 cross division games.
That actually could be interesting if you could pull away OSU and Michigan. Rest of Big Ten could merge with remaining football schools from ACC, Big 12 and PAC 12 with two super conference split away from NCAA and 4 10 team divisions.

How many National Championships has the SEC (with Texas and Oklahoma) won in the last 20 years? now add Clemson and FSU and how many is it?
I saw an interview on YouTube and this was mentioned. they said the SEC is putting themselves in position to be able to say, "The champion of the SEC is the National Champion." The only other team would be Ohio State. now consider if the SEC told Ohio State, "If you want to play for the National Championship you have to join us."
