LSU-Bama is not a rivalry. It’s an intense game between two of the top programs in the SEC over the last twenty years.

Yes.. yes it is.

CAPTIN SAVE ALABAMA (SEC BIRMINGHAM OFFICE)

It isn’t the “SEC BIRMINGHAM OFFICE”, it IS the SEC office.

The SEC office, nor the SEC BIRMINGHAM OFFICE for that matter, were the BCS Committee. They’re the ones who recognized and placed Alabama in the game, not the SEC office.

Excuse me, I need to go watch YouTube and see if LSU finishes a drive in the Alabama side of midfield this time.

The BCS system had three parts, Harris poll, USA Today coaches poll, and the computer ranking. Both polls had Alabama ranked second. Les Miles had a vote in the coaches poll, and he ranked Alabama second, as did 70% of the coaches. I very much doubt that the BIRMINGHAM SEC office had anything to do with it, but keep on ranting, it’s amusing.

How about 12-10 since 2000?
Or 23-16-1 over the last 40?

Great decade, but over the lifespan of most of your fans and ALL of your players, this has been an actual series which the last ten games skews a bit.

No one can compete with Bama’s 2010 decade, nor Bama’s longevity over CFB history, but for anyone under about 45, this is a great series.

Why are you even going here? You aren’t going to get much out of it. Bammers are simply going to act like this game means absolutely nothing to them bc it helps stroke their ego…

Fact is, for a while now this has been THE big game and deciding factor for SEC champs and, while not a traditional rivalry, it is the two big dogs on the block. And while team talent advantage has swung from one to the other Bama has been better coached and had better scheme (ie stop the run) through most of these, thus leading to more wins recently. They have also been more consistent against other teams than us, thus a better SEC winning % (which also tends toward better scheme/ coaching).

Bama has just been a little better than us overall, recently due to coaching and scheme. BUT they circle this game (and Aubie) every year. And they are passionate about it. All you have to do is check when they schedule their byes. That tells ya who’s got the biggest, darkest circle on their calendar that year.

And no, I’m not saying we are way better than Auburn, Florida, Georgia, or Ole Pissy to stroke our ego. Those games are always circled on our calendar and we are passionate about those. I feel a HUGE sense of trepidation as a fan during those game weeks bc they can and will beat us. They are all close to both us and Bama on talent. Ole Piss would’ve beat Bama several years we didn’t if their d-scheme would’ve been better or they had juuust a little more defensive talent in a couple key areas… areas Saban took advantage of over and over. And we have too. Auburn, UF, and UGA can go tit-for-tat with us anytime, and those games are toss-ups most years… we just usually come out on top, thank God.

That game destroyed us, no doubt. It was probably THE SINGLE worst coached/schemed game I’ve personally ever seen LSU play. And it was on the biggest stage. Bama absolutely belonged at that game. But us LSU fans and that team deserved way better than what we got outta our coaching staff. I think that was when we all saw the huge disparity in coaching talent between Miles’ crew and Saban’s. I’m glad it happened in a way bc I, along with most LSU fans knew what HAD to be done then and there. We had to get coaches who could adapt to pressure, not confine themselves to a set game plan, and recruit true quality smart QBs who could read a defense on the fly, make the throws, and push the ball downfield like a leader, not just as a “game manager”. And with his ARM, not just his legs.

Is it a historical rivalry? No.

I recognize that Bama has dominated the final score of this series the last decade. However, I bet if you asked the players, they viewed it as the biggest game on their schedule.

LSU has not brought their best game to this contest more times than not. I truly believe that from 2013-2018, LSU was afraid and intimidated by Bama. I think the losing streak caused pressure to mount and heavily weighed on the players. Other than 2020, Bama has never been THAT much better than LSU.
